ambient lighting - always on?

Featured Replies

Hi all! Anyone know if the background lighting can be set to ‘always on’, regardless of the exterior lighting status?

had this on my previous Skoda Octavia but on this 2022 Kodiaq SL 190 petrol they only come on if other lights are on.

any ideas?

thanks!

The ambient lighting is only on with dipped beam on.

From the owners manual…

Ok understood, thanks!

Also, I don't think you'd see it to be honest. When my headlights come on (set to auto), unless its actuallt pretty dark, you can't really see them in my Kodiaq.

You can adjust the brightness in the settings

Even max brightness it's not that bright.

I had the door cards off once and took a look.  They consist of two LEDs per card and a light pipe.  The LEDs are roughly in the middle.  The LEDs connection to the car seems to be some sort of signalling connection, it's not just LEDs powered by e.g. the door module.  Each emitter board had a SOIC-8 chip on it (I couldn't find any info about this from the part number but it's probably similar to an I2C LED driver type thing).

So basically, the car seems to talk to the lights via a signalling protocol and the little board itself converts that to the RGB to drive the LED.  Would need something like a logic analyser to reverse engineer the protocol.

Of course if you wanted you could just solder directly to the LED emitter and drive it that way too.

Thanks for the deep-dive on this. Maybe a little too much for me considering this is a personal lease, but I appreciate the knowledge.

Yes I know ;)

Mine are all the way up in brightness and until its pretty much dark they are pretty much non visible. One thing I'm not a fan of though is the colour choice affects the accent colour on the touch screen and on the dash display.

I like that... but then I don't set the interior lighting to pink 🤣. Have you noticed you can also set it to change colour automatically with the drive mode...?

Would be nice to be able to have it different though - anything other than red, white or blue (and maybe green) on the dashboard looks horrendous (in my opinion, of course). Would be even nicer to be able to turn different bits of the lighting to different colours, although that could end up with some vomit inducing disco effects...

Agreed. The Skoda green ambient lighting strips I like but no much the green touch screen and dash accents… pink a big no no 🤣

yea noticed the auto setting. Seems to just change to red when you flip the gearbox into sport though.

Will stick to white I think.
