Nextbase Dashcam Problem

Featured Replies

I have fitted a Nextbase 622GW dashcam to my 2021 Octavia VRS but it does not pickup a GPS signal and so will not record my speed. I have contacted Nextbase tech guys who say it could be due to the heated windscreen which stops the GPS signal. Has anyone else experienced this with Nextbase or any other dashcam?

My father on law has this heated windscreen issue with his TomTom satnav on his Landrover. Only works in a bottom corner. So I know heated windscreens can be an issue with GPS reception.

I have the heated windscreen in mine and I have both TomTom (Phone) and Nextbase camera, both with no issues at all. The Camera is located just to the bottom right of my rear view mirror, it takes a few minutes to acquire the GPS signal but tracks fine when acquired. My phone is above the dash on the RHS (Holder from windscreen, never had an issue with either signal strength (Phone) or GPS reception for TomTom.

Thanks for this, I will go back to Nextbase and see what they have to say.

Hi Richard,

I have a Nextbase 322GW that I used in my previous 2020 VRS Octavia with no problem. It is now fitted to my current 2022 VRS, in the same position to the left of the mirror at the top of the screen. I have had no problem in this car either. Both were/are hard wired to the fuse box.

When I got the new car I noticed a USB C port on the side of the interior mirror obviously put there for powering dash cams. My initial thought was to try and get a short lead from Nextbase to save the hassle of running a power lead to the fuse box. When I enquired about a short lead, Nextbase said that they didn't do one because the USB port didn't give a steady enough voltage to power their cameras.

This may not be your situation as I don't know if your car has a USB on the mirror nor that you are using it for your camera.

I have been using the USB C and its perfect, no issues at all with it. In fact its made having a Dashcam sooo easy, I have the Nextbase 522GW though, not sure if that is different. GPS speed display never has any issues although it can be a bit slow some mornings to start, once its locked it never misses a beat. The one thing on my car that does work!! (Well at the moment! :-))

Test it in a different part of the car? Attach to a side window maybe and see if it resolves the issue?

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. I have tried the dashcam fixed to the side window and it still does not pickup GPS which suggests the dashcam is faulty. I have discussed with Nextbase who have agreed to send me a replacement, so hopefully this will be the solution. Once again, thanks for your posts.
