Service Notification.

Featured Replies

Thanks to Covid but more to family illness my motor has hardly moved in the past 12months. My car software informs me that I am  approaching my 'check and oil' service. The car has done 21,000  miles from

new in 2017!! The service is obviously based on the passage of time rather than usage.

My local garage (non Skoda) handles the service and will continue to do so. How have others dealt with this problem?

I, and I’m sure, many of us had the same issue during lockdown. Additionally, I’ve had it again as I was not driving from Oct ‘21 to Mar this year. It’s just one of those things I’m afraid. I had an oil change last July and I’ll be getting it changed again shortly and annually from then on. Time for a DSG and Haldex oil change too. 👍🏻

Well sort of; it's usually based on duration or mileage, whichever comes first.

Had a chat with my garage and will take action similar to 'numskull'. Main worry is that the Skoda computer gets something to stop it continually reminding me!!!!

@Sandgroper

When was the car last given an Oil & Filter Service and the Service Indicator reset?

There is no problem have your local garage reset the Service Indicator, maybe having changed the oil.  Do they not reset it anyway when doing previous services having all the gear and more than ideas?

but do not expect a Main Dealer to reset it without doing a service.

You decide if you want your Oil & Filter changed or Servicing & Maintenance on 5 year old car.

The Service interval Fixed is every year or 9,400 miles or sooner, and on variable 18,000-20,000 miles / 24 months.

Hi All,

I had the issue of the annoying service reminder near the beginning of the pandemic. I recall posting a question on this forum as to how to get rid of the reminder.

A reply I received was as follows:

"I've researched this topic extensively and several methods are suggested. As far as I can make out, for Superb iii with conventional dash, the method is something

like

Sit in car, doors closed, bonnet too. Press and hold SET button under dash clocks, turn on ignition (don't start engine), still holding down SET, wait until a "Reset Oil service?" message appears in the dash, continue holding SET and eventually a "Reset Inspection service?" message appears, immediately release the SET button and then press it again and release to do the reset. Not sure if it acknowledges, but then turn off the ignition.

Note that resetting this way will set the interval to fixed.

Never done it yet on my Superb so no guarantees. "

It worked perfectly on my 2016 Superb III Estate.

Hope this might be useful.

Cheers

Is there a 2022 version of this, @roottoot?

The only one I've found is this, and it's not as satisfyingly neat.

  • 1 month later...

I just got the Oil change and Inspection warning, no problem, was expecting it.

But !

Signed up for the Skoda Service plan a few weeks ago when it was on a special offer and it is (apologise for wrong terminology) Big Service, Little Service, Big Service.

So should I just pay for the oil change and inspection at Skoda, or use a local master mechanic garage, or use a Service from the scheme ?

thanks

How old a car, what miles, when was the last service?

What is your Service Plan, is it Fixed annual and a Minor and Major at 9,400 mile / 372 days,

or do you think it is a Variable / Flexible so @ 18,000-20,000 miles / 24 months between services.

Does your Service plan include Pollen Filter at 2 years, brake fluid @ 3 years,  Haldex at 40,000 miles are are you paying for extras.

It used to be Minor / Interim then Major on Fixed Service Intervals.

Now it is Oil & Inspection Service and then Extended Scope @ 3 years then each 2 in some cases.

the car is 6 years old, done 51,000 miles.

Is meant to be on fixed servicing at least that is what the dealer told me, although it was on variable when I bought it.

dealer service for first 4 years, last year had belts and water pump changed.

The Service Plan is whatever Skoda was flogging a few months ago.

A few years ago I saw the bespoke plan advertised, which was all in everything included, but none of the dealers near here knew anything about it and I rang Skoda and they quoted me a monthly amount that would have bought a new car. In effect I dont think anyone knew what ot was, and someone eventually admitted to knowing about it but said it was only for new cars, which seemed silly as the plan could have included tyres, but did seem to include all the stuff that wears out in year 5 and 6

From your graphic, I am tempted just to have an oil change, oil and pollen filter change and find an independent to recharge the AC

They are muppets.

I bought a Skoda Warranty.

The girl at the dealership came in while on holiday and arranged it for me then and there.

But then the commission available to her was well worth the effort and i put others to her as well.

She really was too good to spend her days with a Skoda Dealership and VW and went to Mercedes and then was promoted quite quickly.

Further demonstrating (I think) that the dealers are absolutely clueless, I got my car from a dealership over 200 miles away who set it to variable servicing.

They were texting me about two months ago that it was time to book the car in for a service. Obviously being 200 miles away they ain't ever seeing this car again, but anyway the car has only just gone a year old, so two months was somewhat premature, but also...it was they who set it to variable and it isn't due in for another year from now (although in reality I suspect it will call up an oil change before year two comes around).

I have previously said on this forum that I would service any car annually regardless, but having done further research I now appreciate the car does not need a service until it tells me (and my nominated 'service partner) that one is due, obviously excluding any interim issues. I am paying enough for this car, so on reflection am happy to await the car telling me it is service time, and not blow one of the two services on my service plan when it is not needed.

So the consensus is

book it into a reliable local garage (not a dealer) for an oil drain, filter change and refill the oil, set the onboard computer to say it has been done and have the brake pads checked.

In effect the yellow column of the graphic.

What about changing brake fluid as I don't think that has been done before, although there seems no issues with braking.

Also, where is the pollen fitted as that must be an easy thing to do.

Pollen filter is behind the glove box - drop the glovebox down by unhooking the arm on the left and there's a little cover underneath the dash as you look up. Old filter slides out and the replacement slides in. I used a piece of card cut from the new filter's box to slip in underneath the filter during the swap to avoid any crud falling down into the pipework.

I bought Bosch air and pollen filters this year and changed them myself before the service - saved a few quid on labour and my local independent garage were happy to update the Skoda records accordingly.
