Octavia vrs mk3 suspension lower arms

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm sure there is a thread on here some where but I can't find it.

I need new bushes in the front lower arms (rear bushes) but unsure on whether to put standard ones back In or splash out and put poly bushes in any feed back is helpfull.

Thanks Rob

The rubber bushes play a big part in absorbing road shocks. You can see from the below two photos that the standard rear rubber bushes are not solid.

Pressed steel suspension arms can rust through and break after about 15 years, so it might be worth fitting new suspension arms that already have new front and rear bushes correctly fitted.

I poly bushed the front wishbones on my previous VRS. Would not do it again as it was annoying constantly spraying them with silicon to try to stop them squeaking. As Carlston says, you might as well get whole new arms with rubber bushes fitted.

That is what I was going to do genuine bushes are cheap enough so I'll put some of those in thanks for feed back everyone.

There are some Audi bushes you can get (TT?) That are solid rubber so still have some give but perform better. Had them fitted on my Octavia and felt more composed. Subtle but worth the change if yours are shot I think.

  • 3 weeks later...

On the MK6 GTi a good mod was to swap the steel arms for cast aluminium from a Passat to lighten up the front end. If you are going to the effort of taking arms off it may be worth getting 2nd hand aluminium arms and new bushes.
