It's a Ford, but it's not at Ford prices. Though better than the Mach-E.

Where is our £10k Fiasta EV's? If they hadn't killed the Focus EV and given up on EV in early 2010's because "there's no demand".

Typical Ford: It's run by number crunchers and let's not forget "Safety doesn't sell"

https://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/sites/default/files/ford_pinto_ethical_case_study_apr16_16.pdf

Ford left the cheap car market many years ago and as you probably know buying a Fiesta does not give a lot of change out of £20k, their Kuga PHEV is £38k so just not in the cheap market for many a decade now.

The Dacia Spring EV is the success story of cheap EV in Europe but Dacia/Renault have about 20k back orders so are not in a position to do a RHD version yet.

UK should get versions of both the Renault 5 and Micra in a couple of years but they will not be anywhere near as cheap as the Spring which is about £12k Euros or just over £10K in GBPs.

Ford wanted to become purely a design house and leave production to toll manufacturers it has been muted.  The Chinese made cars, and vans, are moping up the cheap end of the market and may well take over the middle ground too in the next couple of years.

The e-guys at work keep trying to sell me on their electric cars by citing the 0-60 times.

Since 1992 I've ridden a motorcycle that does 0-60 in under 3 seconds... so the idea of such power being in the hands of the sort of fluppet I encounter daily is actually doing more to turn me off EVs.

The thought of a 3-ton brick that can launch itself like that, under the controlling foot of a careless driver, is actually pretty scary!

Turning you off buying a product for you to use responsibly, base on the off chance it may be mis-used by other people?

Sorry, I don't follow your logic.

Agree 3T truck doesn't need this level of performance. It's show-off for show-off sake.

I wish a lot of the muppets that now have their Green Flash EV's that they have gone for could get a foot down at junctions etc.

High time that those that are maybe not that sure about driving as it is years since they sat their test or have been driving but think they might just get an EV from Motabilty were required to get a bit of driving tuition and maybe a little competence test.

No, just the idea of EVs becoming widespread and in the hands of those who currently cannot (or just do not) even use the power of current ICE vehicles responsibly.

I'm happy being (generally) the fastest thing on wheels out there, and my vulnerability is a constant reminder not to have too much fun... but how do you think everyone would drive if their 'cages' all had McLaren F1 performance?

If that power is the biggest selling point, I think I'd rather just retire from the road!

But then, I've always suspected governments will use situations like this to illustrate how humans can no longer be trusted behind the wheel... before welcoming in the new age of autonomous vehicles (including a brown envelope from manufacturers), which are rented and summoned like taxis instead of being owned, and can generate lots of taxation/revenue to make up for the loss in defunct fuel duty (and by then presumably tobacco duty).

Just like e-scooter trial at eye watering £1 to unlock and 15p a minute! I have recently bought a second hand one for £130, that's equivalent to 20 odd 30min goes on rented ones, 10 days of commute on it gets you a second hand one that's less beat up. No wonder commuter still prefers to risk getting caught.

But anyway, I digress. Acceleration numbers doesn't really distract from their main purpose: to transition transport to renewable energy. You have to remember, just like standard hundreds of 1.6l Golf vs 1 Golf R on the road, you won't get standard Enyaq/ID3's with that kind of power. The headline 3s acceleration numbers on this Ford truck is also the special expensive edition. Nothing have really changed in that aspect. Not everyone is going to be driving around in 3s cars.

But if you can't beat them, join them. If you switch to an electric bike, however...... ;)

New Mach E GT is a sub 4 second to 60 mph car and "only" £7k more than the standard Mach E 4 wheel drive.

£68k RRP is not exactly cheap but comparing "Total Cost of Ownership"  over 3 to 5 years and comparing to a Model 3 performance some would prefer the Mach E GT I would expect.

Quicker than an Audi e-tron GT  it would seem.

Whereas Golf R with 4s acceleration is "just" £42k. If we are just looking at performance numbers as justification against mass adoption of EV's, it doesn't really make any sense.

There's always faster cars and slower cars. Only difference is that EV's can apply the torque instantly so it feels quicker off the line.

Mach E is ridiculously expensive for a Ford on non EV platform.......

The Elephant in the room with EV's and ICE Vehicles in the UK can be the shocking ECO tyres they arrive fitted with.

You can forget the 0-62 times with many of them unless you have a very good surface at the time of flooring it, and even still with some you need to roll first then floor it to get any traction.

TC off is required with many vehicles to actually stop the car stopping you getting full power being produced.

The likes of Michelin Primacy 4 fitted to lots of EV's in the UK are crap enough in warmer weather and total sh1te in the wet / cold.

Well we get the VW stable  currently gets imported in to the UK under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement which means duty free access where as the Mach E has to pay 10% customs duty as the Ford F150 is made in the US and the Mach E GT is made in China so both cop for 10% customs duty.

But even taking this in to account the UK RRP is massively higher than the US prices. One can get a the Pro workhorse version of the F150 lightning for $40k, if one is prepared to wait a year or two.  Convert that in to GBP and one is talking about  £32k !!

Cars are pricey in the UK and always have been.  KPMG worked out RHD cars get nobbled for a 6% price rise over LHD as they represent the much smaller production runs.

Ahh bring back those already reasonable priced Skoda that then had the SUK will pay the VAT ie about 17% off, bargain VRSs for £14k for the twin-charge and about £17k for the 150 mph + Octy, good times.

Since I am in the import game perhaps will bring a car or two over from the US/Canada at some point but it is still the LHD/RHD issue. Maybe Japan ?
