Engine Coolant Level Low message when is fine

Featured Replies

Kia Ora, I constantly get this warning when the car is started "Engine Coolant Level Low". Regular checks show the coolant level is OK, no leaks and the temperature gauge always reads a constant 90 degrees no matter on the distance travelled.

I've changed the expansion tank with a second hand one I got dirt cheap, still the same.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This message is caused by the level sensor in the tank, do you know if the replacement tank is 100% working?
If the fault isn't with the tank, then it could be an issue with the wiring that needs to be checked.

Tena Koe Bazza, there was an update to the coolant level expansion tank sensor in the past three years, where the sensor probes were changed - I believe this change was made exactly for the reason you describe.

A search in the topics section should show you the difference. It might be possible to carefully clean the probes using an old tooth brush, but the cost of a new, updated tank shouldn't be that much anyway. Does your existing tank still have the 'Mit Silicat' teabag in it? - get rid!

Thanks for your reply. I will probably do that. I had a look on ebay last night, found some for under $50 including shipping.

Yes the current one is with the teabag, another reason to get a new one.

How's life on the Sunshine Coast?

Great thanks, are you from this part of the world?

Kapiti isn't often referred to as the Sunshine Coast these days, not for a lack of sunshine (we've had a fantastically sunny autumn), but not to confuse the Aussies with their newer sunshine coast.

Hi, yes - have been away from home for far too long. Wellington boy, but moved to Taradale in 1980 because of the horrible winters.  OE trip in 1984 - still here!

I'm from Welly too.  Agree about the winters! When were you last home?

Taradale is nice, like Hawkes Bay full stop.  The climate is so much better!  How do you find the Fabia 1.0?  Thinking of a Fabia for my wife and wondering if it's a little underpowered.  We had a 1.0 Fiesta S while a great car, it was sluggish down low.

2006, way too long!

The Fabia is the wifes wheels, it has the 110PS engine. Not as smooth as the Octavia but goes very well. We got it from a Skoda dealer in Eastbourne - who thought it was only a 90PS! Pretty odd as the 6-speed box should have given it away. Result!
