Flashing coil light - I know.

Featured Replies

I've just swapped a faulty EGT 1 sensor on my Octavia following a P0545 fault and all appeared well on the first half of my rather long test drive.

On the way back however the coil light began flashing but no EML, it did chuck up a fault in the stop start system - which saves me remembering to turn it off I guess.

So once home I plugged her into the box and no fault codes showing, nor pending but it did produce the below, this was also present before I swapped the sensor but I put it down to that, EGR test was ok too.

Any suggestions where next to begin poking around/finding excuses to add to the tool collection?

Mine has just done the same thing.  Coil light flashing and s/s not working. This was during a 200 mile trip of mainly motorway and A roads. Was still flashing when I reached home. No loss of performance.

Was not used for a month and then had a 150 mile trip, 80% of it on the motorway. No faults at all but average fuel consumption down by 8 / 10 mpg. Could this be a sign of the egr failing?

Fuel consumption seems ok on mine and then the EGR passed the test.

I'd think your idling would be a bit lumpy if it was going and temperature high, especially m/way in the current weather.

Plugged it in to see what the tester says?

A gas leak somewhere is the obvious answer for my issue but other than where, there's the stop start fault and that its intermittent.  'Is that a feature' on them?

I was told that the belt and water pump were changed before I got it so maybe somethings been knocked but whenever I've swapped timing belts in the past I don't recall going near the exhaust.

Final update on this little issue.

I tried another EGT and tested it prior to fitting all the numbers checked out as the same as the original one so clearly the EGTs aren't at fault.

I doused the contacts in contact spray said 'Bugger it' to myself as essentially its just a pointless emissions circuit and set off on holiday with the EML reader in the door pocket.

In the 1000 odd miles its covered since the coil has flashed about twice and reset itself on restarting.

Applying my Landy knowledge to the problem the answer is obvious (no not get the grinder on it solution)- weird crap with car electrics is always a dodgy earth.
