Grayson Spring Assisters

Featured Replies

Ok Grayston got back to me with a price and told me how to order, but said I have to measure the spring gap on my Octavia.

I don't have a trolley jack so this is a problem. Does anyone know what the gap size is or what part number I need? Thanks in advance.

@DupontUnless already posted you need to give your cars details.

Engine / Gearbox etc, maybe more info & @Carlstonis highly likely to know all the numbers.

When i fit assisters i usually have the car jacked up to get then on easily / quickly.

I suggest you purchase both the GE14 and GE15, and see if you can get the bigger GE15 to fit. If there's not enough room for the GE15 to fit, then you will have to fit the smaller GE14 ...which might be a loose fit.

To get the bigger GE15 to fit, you might need to remove the lower shock absorber bolts so that the rear springs can be fully uncompressed...thereby providing the maximum space between the coil turns for the Grayston spring assistors to fit.

Each of the below four Grayston spring assistors are made to cover a large range. If the GE15 is close to fitting but not quite, then the GE14 could be a loose fit.

GE13  Suits 18 to 25mm gap
GE14  Suits 26 to 38mm gap
GE15  Suits 39 to 51mm gap

GE15A Suits 51 to 65mm gap

It would be cheaper to purchase two new rear springs than two set of Grayston spring assistors.

Thanks for this.

I can't afford to buy both. I think I am going to run down to my local back street tyre place and ask them to Jack it up as high as they can and measure the gap for a fee.

How were you proposing to fit them without using a jack?

I'm not. Was going to ask the local mechanic to do it for a fee.

If you like under the back of the car you can probably measure the resting gap between the coils.  I'm pretty certain the ones on my mkii were GE14s but I'll try and find them in the garage to check.

Edit...   The gap Grayston quote is with the car jacked up and the wheel off the ground

Much appreciated. 👍

Another question. Do I have to notify my insurance company?

Yep GE14s for a mkii estate and I fitted and removed mine roadside using the scissor jack that came with the car and axle stands.  Given they were on the car for so long they are in surprisingly good condition.  One looks like new and the other just has a couple of cracks at the thin edges.

Insurance-wise I didn't but the car was insured for other non-standard changes.

Great. Thanks very much. Now I just need to find out if the mark ll and mark lll used the same size springs? I will notify my insurance company before I fit them.

Please check the gtw on the drivers door pillar some octavias have a zero gtw which means they should not be used for towing seems strange but it is true

Gross Train Weight GTW includes the weight of the car...so zero GTW would make using the car on public roads illegal because the car weighs more than 0kg...so the GTW can never be zero.

Hi I didn't put this on for an argument this is fact I put it on to make people aware that they may be towing when they are not allowed to do so I had a long ongoing issue before skoda finally sent me an email to say you are not permitted to tow anything
