Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard

Featured Replies

Hello fellow Octavia Owners,

I have a 2020 First Edition of the Mk IV.  Tw yearson and I am still trying to figure this out.  Is there a way to have the time and distanced travelled displayed on the dashboard, or the "Drive Information System"?  I have seen photos of dashboard where the time is shown above the speedometer on the classic display.  The distance travelled is somewhere on the bottom.  It was easy with my MK II Octavia to "reset the clock" at the beginning of each journey; just pressed the button.  Not so easy now.  I know you can see distance travelled, fuel consumption, etc by scrolling through the display, but all the info disappears, so I believe, if the car is parked for more than 2/3 hours.  Not much use if you are doing a road trip.  Thanks in advance.

The only way I can see to achieve this is to reset the long distance data before your road trip. Then, up to 99 hours or 10K km you should be able to see a summary of time and distance; but only on the central infotainment screen.

I did pretty much what @inspectorman mentioned when on a road trip recently. Reset the Long-term data before setting off for 2500 miles over 3 weeks. Worked well for the overall view with the Since Refuel being useful when I accidentally filled up with ‘E5 Performance’ (my best translation from Italian). Economy was phenomenal for that tankful 👍

And yes, Since Start resets itself after turning off for about 2 hours.

The any of the three data sets can be displayed within the speedo or tachometer dials on the Virtual Cockpit, just a bit of fiddling with the selector wheel/knob.

Hello.  Someone else on a different thread also suggested this, so I tried it this afternoon.  Nothing!  I scrolled through the whole lot on the right and on the left but there was nothing to display the time or trip distance on the virtual cockpit.  Perhaps my model doesn't have that facility, which I find frustrating and odd.  Wouldn't you think that's basic info when driving?   I thought my car was quite well equipped being a First Edition with electronic adjustable seats, etc.

Any idea about having the time shown on the virtual cockpit?

typo and added a sentence.

When scrolling through the items to display did you go in to settings? In there you can enable/disable various items.

As for the clock in the virtual cockpit, I think the early SEL First Edition models didn’t have it, mine didn’t - but the VC unit was replaced as part of the fix for the KPH/MPH issue and the replacement had a clock (but even after a year I usually forget it’s there and glance at the main infotainment unit 🙄

Me too. It is there in small characters at the top of the virtual cockpit, at least on most screens. It also doesn't always contrast well with the background/

The time in the Infotainment unit is much bigger and clearer.

Cars, 40 years ago had easily resettable trip meters that measured in1/10 of a mile.  There are several reasons I need this.  Anyone who claims miiage will do as well.   Another design failure.

I reckon that car speedos and trip counters 40 years ago were so inaccurate that to rely on the 1/10th mile is a false hope. To assume a precision of 1/10th does not imply accuracy. Anyway, it seems you have a specific requirement I suggest a car speedo is the wrong tool for the job.

Get over it. There is so much information in these cars that is easily accessible I'd call it a design success. Have a fiddle with the views on teh main Infotainment screen and you'll find a myriad of options to suit the vast majority of needs.

Anyone who needs know how far they have gone on a journey needs a normal trip. Knowing how many hours the car has been running and distance in a day is of no use.  Amongst other things I organise rallies for historic cars and need to be able to give accurate distances between junctions.   The infotel on the Skoda is so complicated and has so many features i don't need.  Just a simple tak like changing the fan speed takes three screens and you can't do it on the move.

If you use the trip meter for these so called 'accurate' distances, I'd suggest you change your method of approaching the problem 😅

That is a rather unhelpful reply.  There are plenty of people who have to fill in expenses forms based on miles between meetings.   What do you mean by "so called accurate distances"?

You mentioned measuring the distance between junctions. Measuring those accurately is not something you do using a trip meter. If you need the miles between meetings, the Since start counter can be used unless you stop for more than two hours.

Jorge.  I assume you have no experience of running rallies?  I am an National licenced Motor Sport UK Clerk of the Course and have run many, many rallies and classic tours with "tulip" style road books.  For tours we use the trips meters and modern trips are very accurate and for rallies we use Brantz meters which are retrofits.

Anyway your comments are not relevant to the issue with my, and the other 400 cars.

Hi Sneal, I scrolled through everything but Settings wasn't one of the options.  There wasn't anything "simple" like Display.

I'm not questioning your rally knowledge, I'm just telling you that it's a bit far fetched blaming a car for not having a granularity down to 1/10 of a mile just because you can't use it for something it's clearly not designed to do.

There are better tools for that, such as the Brantz you mentioned.

So why sis every car I owned up to and including by 2016 Octavia have a trip that easily seroed and was very accurate?

Can’t quite remember the sequence (and it’s late!) but if you scroll to and select settings and then go Right with the arrow below you should see a list of items to display with the dial. Can select (as in tick) the various data items for each of Since Start, Since Refuel, Long Term. They should then appear in the scroll options for that dial.
