Removing Foglamp blanks on a Face-lift Mk2

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A friend of mine is trying to retrofit fogs onto his face-lift Mk2 fabia. It seems the blanks won't come off like how the normal foglights come off.

Does anyone know how they are removed?

Thanks in advance.

I’m halfway through a retro fit too (will finish that one day…). It’s a mk2 2011 - think the facelift differs slightly to the OG mk2.

it took a lot of brute force. Remove the two small blanker panel bits on the wide section of lower grill first (these just pull out, left one took some oomph on mine), then stick your arm in, and feel for a plastic tab behind the fog light blanker.

once you sacrifice some knuckles and a chunk of flesh from your lower arm, the blankets should release relatively easily.

Thanks for the quick response, did not expect any until morning!

We were both a bit confused before as his cars blanks didn't have a release clip where my car does (mine has foglamps) but your answers cleared things up.

I'll let them know thank you so much.

If you're pulling on plastic a quick clean of the area and quick spray of a suitable lubricant like GT85 can sometimes help, it's amazing how small bits of grit/crud can hold things together.

Had this issue with my MK2 as others said remove the end parts of the lower grill as you can then get into the fog light blank area. I sprayed area with WD40 but they would not realease, after much pushing and choice words th only way I  could remove them was to drill a small hole in the solid part of the plastic blank near the middle of the blank screw in a long thin wood screw a few turns and the used a mole grips on the screw and gave a good yank out, to my suprise they came out quite easy this way as it seems theres no clips or anything holding them in place, found a deal on EBay seller had new old stock and paid £96 for a set of fog lights with a new switch and screws etc to fit the lamps wiring for the lamps was included but not right to the switch whic I completed myself, I did add a relay just to make sure that it was safe to use
