SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT

Featured Replies

Hi.

Is there any way to completely disable, (or at least turn down the volume of) the audible alert when reversing the Superb S TDI CR 1.6 (2012) estate?

Do you mean an alert audible from outside the car, or the beeps from the reversing sensors when you are nearing an obstruction? If the former, I don't have it on mine, so it must be able to be switched off... 🤔

Hi.

I mean the (unnecessarily loud) beeps that occur inside the car when reversing and nearing what the sensors believe is an obstruction.

It should be possible through the maxidot display. If you car does not have a maxidot display (I think all Superbs have a maxidot), then it should be possible to change the volume via the entertainment centre.

This is for the Octavia but should be the same for superb

Think I might have managed to lower the volume by fiddling with the radio/cd player.

I pressed the button near the far right side that looks like a musical note, cycled through the settings and lowered 'PCD Volume.' (Or similar.)

Time will tell if this has resolved the issue. 🤔

I don't think the issue of the loud reversing sensor alert has been resolved so far by altering the volume on the radio/CD player.

Am I going to have to take a fuse out if I want to stop the unnecessary audio alerts, or will removing any fuses affect other, essential parts of the car?

Sorry for not responding sooner, only just had chance to get out to my car to check settings and take photos.  My superb is a Facelift MY14 Elegance + extras spec' so your pre-facelift car may be different but on the OPS screen that pops up when you select reverse or press parking sensor button to give a graphical display of the reversing  (and side and front, if you have them) sensors, bottom right is a mute button that totally disables the audible warnings for the reversing sensors if pressed (then press a second time to unmute):

As other have alluded to, you can also adjust the volume and frequency of the sensors via MaxiDOT (small screen between speedo and rev counter controlled via steering wheel controls) menu.  Route to get to these settings on my car is "SETTINGS", "Assistants", "PDC" to get you to this menu:

YMMV with your particular car but I'd be very surprised if there weren't options to mute and/or adjust default volumes and frequencies somewhere.

Hope the above helps

Thanks, I really appreciate your advice.

I don't have the bigger, more detailed display you have on your car.

My display is among the most basic of any Superb MKII.

Last year someone tried to advise me about the maxidot display. I tried following their advice, however it was as though my maxidot display, (or equivalent) was less sophisticated than that of the maxidot the person giving me the advice had.

As you've pointed out, it'd be surprising if there weren't simple ways to adjust the volume of the reversing alert.

That's a shame. And there's no mute button on the infotainment unit you have which I assume isn't a Columbus as per screenshot of OPS display from my car?

If you are ok with totally losing the audible warnings then, rather than trying to find a fuse to pull as you suggested, it would be safer to disconnect the buzzer that generates the warning.  Unfortunately no idea exactly where that speaker lives other than I assume it's in rear of car somewhere around rear headlining / door pillar trims based on location of sound and this thread

Disconnecting the speaker will totally disable the entire system unfortunately.

Can you post a picture of your instruments and radio setup?

Just a thought, When you're in reverse, does an image of the car show up on the radio? Where are the sensors on your rear bumper located?

The "S" trim of car didn't come with rear parking sensors from the factory, only "SE" and above trim did.

I wonder if someone has fitted an aftermarket set of parking sensors, which are not integrated into the car settings in any way.

Hi.

Thanks for the help so far.

I've attached an image of the control system I have.

The sensors on the rear don't look like aftermarket sensors, but I could be wrong.

The rear sensors for reversing appear flush with the rest of the vehicle body and are the same colour as the car.

Two of the sensors appear to be located just below the wide reflective strip on each side of the back of the car, and there may be two more nearer to the middle at the back, along the same horizontal position as the outer two sensors.

Hi.

Thanks for the information.

Yes, when I'm in reverse and as per the image above an image of the car does show up near the radio/CD tuner, along with accompanying wavy lines to indicate when and approximately where the vehicle is in relation to objects behind it.

Looking at the image you posted, it definitely looks like a factory setup.

If you haven't got a maxidot MFD menu to access the car's settings and adjust the volume, you might need to adjust it with Carista, VCDS or similar diagnostic tool.

If I removed fuse 5 from the fuse box in the dashboard of the car above, which apparently is the the fuse for the control unit for headlamp beam adjustment, headlight swivel, and the control unit for the parking and park assist), will the headlamps simply stay in their current, correct position?
