DSG service intervals

Featured Replies

Yeah ok, I'm confused!

I have a 19 plate 245 with the DKTB engine and apparently TSX gearbox. the perceived wisdom is that the DSG service interval is 40k, but having just spoken to service dept's at two different main dealers (Hortons and NW Skoda) they tell me that the interval for my car is 80k, as it's the 'new' DSG box. Now, I'm tempted to believe them as why would a main stealer pass up work and tell you that you don't need a service, but as usual there seems to be a lot of debate around the issue, and very little hard fact floating about. Has anyone else with the same car on similar (38k) mileage had the same information?

(pics for attention, cos i want to show off my new wheels and Tony Banks cat back exhaust!! :) )

It's always nice seeing a car with at least 4 exhaust pipes. 👍

If it is a DQ381 then 80,000 miles it will be if you want to leave it that long.

@mczakk

Does your car have a VAQ diff and if so is that overdue a service and did the dealership employees fail to mention that?

@30,000 miles / 3 years or sooner.

There are various threads on the VAQ, as there are on DQ381 & DQ380 DSG's.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/482132-vrs-245-diff-servicing

Service Desk staff might not pass up the opportunity to upsell an AC Service, or a fuel additive treatment,

they might well miss telling owners about the VAQ or Haldex or tell those with a DQ200 DSG it is due an oil change, they might miss stuff like recommendations or guidelines on brake fluid.   But then that is just because they get on the job training by people with no technical knowledge of mechanical engineering.

@roottoot yes, it's a 245 on a 19 plate, so it does have the VAQ diff I believe. Strangely enough I've not been told anything about getting it serviced by the dealer, but then they're pretty useless. Charged me a £75 quid diagnostic/investigation fee when the car  arrived at their workshop with no oil due to a chuffing great hole in the sump! Then they insisted that I had the oil service 6 months later even though I'd had the car 7 months, it had had an oil/filter change when I bought it, and fresh oil a month later!

It's now coming up on its 40k service, (covered under service plan) so I'm going to a different main dealer and asking them to do the VAQ as part of that.

Read the service plan carefully. Most only cover oil change and inspection where due. Maybe a pollen orcair filter if you're lucky. No extras like plugs or diff/haldex oil is covered normally.

Don't know what's going on here but I can't get rid of the @ or the quote!

@MarkyG82I checked the service plan and it's only one oil and filter and one oil/filter and scope. So I guess I'll be paying a fortune at main stealer for a major service!

You can use any independant garage to service the car as long as they use genuine parts. I would look for a VAG specialist in your area and use them for the VAQ service.

The VAQ servicing is something owners need to be aware of when they have that or are buying cars with it.

Even Skoda / VW Approved used cars with FMDSH, yet not serviced to Manufacturers recommendations, guidelines or schedules.

Not that the Manufacturers Recommendations are easy to find in written form, or to get vocalised to you are Skoda Main Dealerships in the UK.

Too often it can be said that something is 'Optional'  but then it is not really if a Manufacturers Warranty or Extended Warranty claim is required.

Skoda Approved used cars get a Warranty on them even when stuff like Haldex, DSG, VAQ servicing has not been done.

Try buying a Skoda Warranty and then not having the car serviced to 'Specification / recommendations, schedules' and having to claim,

you might well get knocked back rather quickly as has happened to some.

There's a 1hr lock out, and to unlock you need to be a "freedom" subscriber.

£6-10 per year via PayPal

Not too sure why you can't do it on a desktop - maybe add what browser you're using or try with a different one first.

Post editing is allowed for the first hour unless you subscribe to one of the bargain Freedom options which adds (amongst other things) unlimited editing. 😉

The 1 hour limit starts from when you initially made the post or are you saying that you've joined and are still having issues? If so then give it another hour to line the cogs up. PM me if there's still an issue afterwards. 👍

HaHA, ok, now I understand!, I've joined now, and everything seems to be meshed nicely!

Back on the service discussion. It's been mentioned before by a few of us that just because you have a full deal history does not mean that it's been serviced correctly. Just that whatever has been done has been done at a dealer and is recorded on the central system.

Well it's all sorted now, spoke to NW Skoda, the girl there(who did admit she was a trainee) told me I needed a cambelt change abs that the VAQ diff would be done on the 'major' service on my plan. So I thanked her politely and phoned Capitol Skoda in Newport (I'm moving down there at the end of the month). After a good giggle at the cambelt issue we decided I'll have the 'major' service, and I'll pay to have the VAQ checked and oil changed and new plugs for the princely sum of £300.

Is that £300 for just VAQ service and new plugs?

Can somebody tell me:

If the clutch is wet type, the oil in the clutch is the same as in gears and hydraulic part?

Wet Clutch DSG's like DQ250 , DQ381's have one oil and that is for the box and the MCU.

Twin Dry Clutch DSG's, DQ200's have 2 Oils, in the box and in the MCU.

A 1.8TSI if FWD has a DQ200 7 speed Twin Dry Clutch does it not unless a AWD ?

I have only FWD and DQ200, AWD had wet DSG6 if I recall correct.

I didn't know that DQ200 has separate oils, thanks.

Only downside until now is that the clutch pack was replaced under warranty after only 40tkm, so if I keep it, it will come again and it isn't cheap.Engine is still stock HP.
