Please replace key battery...

Featured Replies

So my car is telling me I need to replace the battery in the key fob every time I get in the car. Obviously I have replaced it, and with quality Duracell batteries, but it's still telling me to replace it.

Anyone else had this issue or have a work around before I contact my absurdly useless local Skoda dealership.

Cheers 👍🏼

Plenty of posts in forum, iirc most fit Panasonic?  Time for a little search on the site.

Have you used the remote after that? I mean physically pressed a button near the car?

Thats something to think. If just using kessy, it does not update status to car.

I received the 'replace battery' message recently, fitted a new Panasonic one and the message went. However, it's only about six months since the last replacement so possibly the red flashing light on the fob indicating it's in contact with the car, including the asssociated circuitry, may  be using up more power than my previous Karoq's Kessy, which didn't need replacing for the two years we owned the car. The light flashes on the fob inside the house until I move another room away.

I had the same problem. After changing the batteries in the key fobs I started to store my keys in a Faraday pouch. The lights on the fob stopped flashing when in range of the car.

hoping this going to prolong the battery life

Yes bud used the fob buttons, all works fine as the battery is fine, just the slightly annoying message that pops up every time. I see it as more of a software glitch than an issue with the key.

I've used the search function, I think we all know that forum searches are not the easiest to navigate. I found a thread on the Scala section with someone having the same fault as me, but mostly giving advice on how to store keys to maintain key battery life.

I don't see battery life as my issue here as I've tried numerous brand new batteries, so clearly the fault lies in the softwares battery warning threshold being set too high. I have however ordered some Panasonic batteries to try so thanks for that 👍🏼

I think it comes down to battery construction, if the internal resistance is higher (due to the way the battery is built) then the open circuit voltage will be OK but when a current is drawn (like when the fob is used) the voltage will drop below the threshold set and hence the voltage warning be generated. This may explain why fresh Panasonic batteries don't seem to have the problem?

Yes, so why can't the others not just start copying Panasonic etc, they MUST frequently be checking out the competition - or are they just lazy/stupid.

I've only ever used Panasonic as if they are good enough for VW Group to stick with all these years then why bother trying any other brands.

Because of pricing. "Lets make a cheaper one so it will sell more" - not meaning that it would be better.

I tried Ikea battires on my car fob. Didnt survive a winter. Changed back to some "known" brand.

I had the same problem, got a advice that with the battery out from the keyfob, press a button for 10 sec. After doing that my warnings disappered and the new battery is working fine.

Could be, but I think that without saying it, I was meaning most of the other "respectable" or trusted battery brands, I made a slight boo-boo when reordering on ebay, I got it into my mind that it was Sony branded batteries that I had bought in the past - I was wrong there, but the Sony branded batteries seemed as good as Panasonic - though the seller did ward me that Sony were leaving that market so next time it would need to be another brand.

I've never trusted Ikea for batteries, so I avoided that error.

I have had my car since January 21 still on the same battery in key fob. My car due for a service but concerned about all the faults that other owners are having with their cars.  The only faults I have ever had has been with the sat nav. Dealer says as part of the service they update the software. Bit hesitant as i dont want problems I haven't got.

Battery swapped for a brand new Panasonic battery, still not fixed the issue. Also tried holding down a button on the fob with no battery installed but that hasn't helped either 😞

Looks like a trip to the dealership is in order, not that I have any faith in their abilities to fix these things

Just a n update incase anyone else finds this thread when suffering a similar issue, after the recent OTA update it appears to have fixed itself 👍🏼

Spoke too soon, fault is back 😂🤦🏽‍♂️

I had this and it was only after I swapped out the batteries on both keys the warning message stopped coming up. No idea why.

The manual states that when you get the message you should take out the old battery, then (when no battery is in) push a button (no specific button quoted) and then put a new battery. Perhaps some resetting procedure.
