Oil sump replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Our Skoda Octavia (1.4 TSi Elegance, 2014) has been leaking small amounts of oil so I took it into out local garage today who confirmed that it needs a new oil sump and quoted around £400 off for the sump and labour.

Having a quick google and trying to source my own is a tad complicated as some sites are coming up with many different varieties for the same VRN.

Would anyone know if there's a product code I need or perhaps even a supplier who stocks these?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

I will flag this for a Mod and they can move it to the Octavia section. Hopefully you will get help there.

Moved it.

I assume you've had a look at EuroCarParts and GSF?

For that £400, if they're doing a basic service (oil filter, new oil etc), that will have some value in it.

Hi, ECP was a no unfortunately, I'll give GSF a try now.

PS. Thanks for moving the topic.

Sump (two parts) part numbers e.g. here LLLParts

Has the leak been localised to 'between the two sump parts' or between both and crankcase?

Edit: or impact damage, presumably to lower bit?

Obvious omission

Thanks Pete, no they didn't localise the leak unfortunately.

Not the garage to be using then, as they've probably quoted for both bits to cover their asses.

But see edit to my last post, please. If it were just a junction leakage, it would just need re-sealing, nothing replacing.

Welcome by the way, and I would be inclined to follow Pete's advice... they could be getting you to fit a new sump etc just for the sake of a a few quids worth of silicon sealant that could have been used.

Time for a second opinion methinks, alternative garage or try to locate yourself with guidance perhaps.

Best of luck.

Do you know that the garage will allow you to supply your own parts for them to fit?

Most won't and take exception to customers proposing this because its usually in the form of "yes but I can get the part for only X £'s", they of course will probably be getting it for significantly less but that is how they make their money and there is also the question of if you return complaining about a further leak.

I ask because you may be wastinng your time and making a rod for your own back.

I've just had this done and my garage was able to use a 'reconditioned' sump and do the whole job for £180. Temp fix as I'm changing it soon ;-)

Id already had the plug helicoiled twice before.

^ Oh, and there's another leak site I had omitted to consider; thanks. 😁

They are a split sump from memory, so worth checking which part is actually leaking as you could save some money.
It could just be that the mating surfaces need a good clean and the silicone gasket renewed, probably around £40 in parts for basic stuff and a few hours worth of time.
