2.0 TDI Octavia elegance turbo keeps stopping/going into limp mode

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been driving around for a while with an annoying / worrying fault where the car is hesitant around 2k RPM and then occasionally a fault occurs which then limits the car (limp mode??). Every time I turn the ignition off and restart it clears  and it drives perfectly fine and only recently have I managed to get a friend to plug in a diagnostic tool which found "P0299 - Turbocharger / Supercharger Underboost" fault code. What are the likely causes of this, I'm hoping not the Turbo? Also, for someone with no experience with car repairs are there simple checks that I can do to eliminate potential causes?

My car is a 2000 octavia 2.0 TDI 140 elegance

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You don't happen to have a detailed description on how to do this? Is this the same as EGR cleaner?

There's one in the pinned threads at the top of the Octy 1 forum.

Before you go in guns blazing with oven cleaner after watching a youtube video I would suggest checking the turbo actuator works properly and moves the VNT mechanism as it should.

Seeing as you have no experience repairing cars I would recommend you take this information to an independent garage explaining you would like them to perform the aforementioned tests. Any spanner monkey with half a brain should be capable of that, and don't accept any responses saying you need a new turbo at great expense.

You could be spoon fed the procedure but it would be a very long winded potential nightmare.

Sorry, there's no easy DIY fix for someone in your shoes despite your willingness to try.
