2.0 TSI Engine Covers.

Coburg

Recommended Posts

I have recently taken delivery of a new 2.0 TSI L&K and I discovered once I arrived at home that there was no engine cover. Naturally I am surprised that this wasn’t drawn to my attention while at the dealership and I’m still awaiting a call back from them regarding the situation.
I have read on the internet that engine covers were removed from this particular engine due to a safety issue, but I cannot find any information about what Skoda are proposing to do to rectify the problem, and when it will happen.  Does anyone on this site know what is happening.

As roottoot said above - There is a recall on the ea888 gen 4 engines where the covers i believe had a fire risk or risk of touching the exhaust so before the dealer sell a car, they have to remove it.

There is a bit of chatter on VW and SEAT forums that seam to suggest the replacement cover is now a thing with part number 06Q-103-925-L.  No idea if that's accurate however.

That sounds very plausable and is backed up with what the part catalog is saying.

I did a search for 06Q-103-925-L and was suprised to see that it is mentioned 17 vehicles.

The oldest is MY2015 (F) Audi TT.

It orignally came with 06Q-103-925, dropped 01/06/2021

06Q-103-925-K has a STOP ALERT, meaning don't use (and remove ideally)

06Q-103-925-L has no warning markers

I'd hope that if the revised version is now geting fitted at the factory then replacements at the dealers' can't be too far behind?

There's a rather big assumption in there... 😉

It's one of those "couldn't care less" things for me - it's not like it is any noisier or anything without the cover. And I'm not really one who worries about how tidy my engine bay looks.

When I have paid in excess of £40K for a car I expect everything that I have paid for to be present.
Although you may not be bothered about an engine cover,  when I come to sell the car the lack of an engine cover may put off a prospective buyer.

People have been buying engine covers, so just keep on at Skoda / VW group for your engine cover that should have come with the car, or ones removed at Servicing because of the Safety Recall in the UK or at a PDI.

Threads in the Super, Octavia and Karoq section on the Subject / DVSA Safety Critical Recall.

Having contacted Skoda U.K. they have stated that they don’t know when or even IF a replacement will materialise. Main dealers I have contacted say they are ‘in the dark’. I know about the recall last year and that it effected all VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda cars with the 2.0TSI engine, but there has been no information regarding progress to rectify the situation.

I know they say that, but they are Dealerships / staff.

It is the Organ Grinder you need to Ask not the Monkey.   VW Group were the ones that said there would be replacements.

I have contacted the dealer again regarding my missing engine cover and they say that they have no information regarding a replacement so I rang Skoda U.K. again.
Skoda U.K. state that they have no idea when or even if a replacement will be forthcoming. In reply I suggested that they ring/contact Skoda Head Office to ascertain what is going on. They said that Skoda U.K. has no contact with Skoda Head Office and that they can only find out information by contacting the U.K. dealer network. Back to square one!
Absolutely incredible!!!

A Briskoda member posted that their car was in for a service at a dealers in Ireland and they fitted an engine cover.  I assumed a new one. Maybe wrongly.

@Coburg

The provider of Skoda Customer Services in the UK might well say they have no contact with Skoda Head Office,

well that really can not be a truthful statement and they really need to contact SKODA / VW UK regarding matters they are clueless about, as are dealership staff.

One shiny engine cover.

Don't suppose there's a part number on it? Also, if you do remove it to look for one, how does it attach? I assume it'll have to attach in the same way, otherwise it's not a simple job to fit new ones to existing cars, as the mounting points would need to be changed.

It’s a fairly soft sponge rubber item.

Sits on 4 ball end pegs - 2 front and 2 rear.  Comes off with a firm tug front and rear.

VAG part number 06Q103925

Same fittings then… so I wonder what’s been changed 🤷‍♂️. Fortunately, I took mine off before it went in for its service last year, so it is somewhere in the garage. If I get chance I will dig it out tomorrow and see if I can spot any differences vs your photos.
