Upgrading Navigation Display Mk3

Featured Replies

Hi, I have the MK3 with bigger display but with non touch buttons, I bought one second hand display with touch buttons but only after I bought it I saw that one connector have 1 broken pin.

Is there any possibility to buy a connector like this ? I think it`s a fakra connector but I could not find one, this connector is for power up the display.

Can someone help me ?

I'd probably try this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000182146172.html

As it's Z-keyed, it will accept any colour plug.

It will need soldering by someone competent as it's probably pretty easy to kill the screen if you're not careful :)

You can’t just fit the Columbus display from a mib2.5

it won’t function correctly with most mib2 control units.

you need to change the 5f module to a 565xxxxx module first.

once that’s done you can just snip the locating tab off the fakra male connector and fit it.

edit: you mean the connector has a broken pin, my bad. The connector is a lvds and it handles the image signal. That will be extremely awkward to strip down and repair, very small circuitry. It can be done though.

Someone confirmed me that it works if I swap the display.

I was just wondering will it work in 3 pins ? :)

I dismantle yesterday evening the board to take a closer look, I need to go to an electronist to do the soldering well...

I am ordering one from Aliexpress .

Thank you all for the info.

If there's no stub of the missing pin visible below the blue connector body, then I'd assume that only the 3 pins are used. Can you share a picture of the other side of the connector?

There should definitely be four... Some ham fisted 'technician' has managed to break one somehow 😕

Snippet from a wiring diagram showing the four wires and shield below:

Sorry, I meant the other side of the blue connector on the circuit board so we can see if the missing pin is populated - the opposite side to this:

@ApertureS, @langers2k I know I'm clutching at straws here but sometimes pins are not populated to save €0.0001, *2 on the wiring diagram does say "According to equipment" !

I will say this one last time, all four pins are required!

In this instance, the "According to equipment" is because some models will have an "all in one" headunit with nothing in the glovebox area. If the screen is part of the headunit, there is no need for a external wire connecting them :D

For more evidence, take a look at this ebay item: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133253480589

It has the same part number but clearly has all four pins:

All 4 pins are populated and used, they are required. No way around that.

Hi, I also saw that item for sale, I was thinking of buying it just for the motherboard.

Can't argue with that

Hi,

I just want to come back with the upgrade photo, I repair that plug with 60 euro and it was just plug and play for me.

Now I am starting to think of a future project :)
