2022 Superb - Aftermarket speakers/amps

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have recently gotten the new 2022 superb style with premium package but due to semi conductor/microchip issues, the led headlight matrix (or whatever it is) and 12 speaker canton system have been taken out.

My question is:

Is it possible to put in an aftermarket sub, amp and other speakers and run them from the existing head unit or does the lack of microchip mean running a complex audio system is just not possible at all?

cheers

I suggest going and speaking to a car audio professional about your options. A suitcase sub under the seat might get you some bass if that’s all you need but if you want something really nice you’ll likely need a full solution with speakers, cable, amp and installation which in my opinion would be worth it.

have a look at this thread….

And this one:

The Canton uses a 12 channel ~700w amp/system which gives it incredible range and warmth. Many people will often go for fewer channels and less power just to get something that will slap out some RnB or dance music better. Depends what you like and want. The superb has locations for 11 speakers and a sub in the rear left cubby.

I have a minidsp c-dsp 6x8 and use the high level inputs from the front. Rears need to be reconnected shortly to the hu outputs. Sub in the boot on 1.6kW. works very well. Fronts are Helix s62s.

Hi all,

Thanks for the info. I’m mainly after clarification about whether the head unit is lacking something (ie a microchip) that means i won’t be able to build a comprehensive system (professionally installed) run By the existing head unit?

when I bought the car, the dealer advised it was ‘semiconductor’ optimized, which juts means it has left stuff out that previous models had. One of the the things left was the comprehensive 12 speaker Stereo (stripped back to 6 with no amp or sub).

The premium package includes a separate amplifier whereas the standard package uses the amplifier built into the headunit.

It's likely the chip shortage means that separate amp is in short supply or even unavailable so they removed the premium package.

You can still fit an aftermarket system if you want :)

As long as the current model uses a fibre optic link to the amp system, then anything can be added...

There won't be a separate amp with the 'standard' sound system... It'll use the inbuilt amp in the headunit.

Pretty sure that MIB3 headunits have dropped the MOST (optic) connector too 😕

Yeah it’s all done over Ethernet, canbus and linbus. No MOST anymore
