Checking the car before takeover

Featured Replies

Hi all,

so on Saturday I am checking the car that is waiting for me at the dealers before actually taking it over next Wednesday.

I am planning to check the

- interior,

- exterior (as much as I can as a non professional),

- infotainment sw version,

- if the wifi connection is enabled (some of you have reported it missing from available functions),

- if the blind spot detection is installed

What else do you think might be worth checking before I take her home?

Matej10, how did you sort your issue with missing blind spot detection?

You will be amazed how many cars are handed over with things turned off, passenger airbag, emergency braking radar etc.

Check spare wheel (if specified) or what is under the boot floor, and put a rear seat forward (always indicates how well prepped it is)

If you have a tyre pressure gauge (even a pencil type) see what they are set at (even compare the tyres to check about same area is flat against the ground, give away if all inflated differently), don’t forget to check the spare (most salesmen will have a gauge in their desk drawer if you don’t own one.

Funny! On Saturday I'm picking up mine! I didn't even see it before; I was expecting some pictures from my dealer, but apparently she was too busy for that...
Long story short, in preparation for the pickup I printed the list with all the characteristics of the car (both standard and the optional ones). Of course, I won' t check all the bullet points of that list (it has 2 pages), but it will be used as a reminder for what the car should have and what not...

At the dealership, Open the bonnet, dip the oil level cold. Know where it is.

Once home you can check at operating temp and be able to know how the car arrived.

Look at the coolant level. remember where that is at handover.

Check those tyre pressures as already suggested.  Reset the TPMS if correct.  If not safely set have the Salesperson get someone out to do that.

They can also get the Master Tech to check who did the PDI.

Ok, this next question might seem silly - can you turn on the infotainment without turning on the engine? Cars with key ignition  would turn everything on just by giving contact, but here there is a button start?

Sure you can. If you have an automatic, Just don't press the brake paddle when you press the start button.
If you have a manual, put it in neutral, don't press the clutch and then press the start button.

Another thing to check is also the ride height. Some owners were left with transportation blocks still installed in the springs.
