Usb port on rear view mirror.

Featured Replies

Can someone please tell me if this would carry enough voltage/power to supply both a dash cam and a wireless charging cradle such as Quad Lock for a Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Thanks..

I don't know for certain, but I'd be surprised if the Galaxy S22 Ultra would charge whilst sharing the port, especially if you'd be using it for streaming music or satnav (which seems likely as you mention using a cradle). The demand of 3/4/5G antenna, bluetooth/wifi link to car, Android Auto, GPS, data streaming, and the screen on will mean the phone is using a lot of power hence I suspect a shared port will be insufficient.

I'd recommend using a dedicated port; I usually connect my iPhone XR to rear port and place it on the centre arm rest (which I rarely, if ever, use). It sits there face down, screen off, and everything I need to do on the phone is through CarPlay and Siri voice control.

Thanks for that.

I want to have the phone in a cradle so I can use Waze or Google Maps and just glance at it.

I have it in a Baseus wireless charger cradle at the moment which is attached to a Brodit Clip on the A pillar. I have specified the wireless charging option on the car, but I've heard that it's not that good or powerful, so may struggle to charge my Galaxy S22 Ultra whilst driving. Also don't know if Waze and Google Maps will appear on the cockpit display. So I think that I'd prefer to have a charging cradle and Brodit clip arrangement.

I think the cars sat nav only displays in the dashboard/cockpit. I always use Waze on the main infotainment screen and charge my phone at the same time off one of the 2 usb c ports under the screen in centre console, or via Bluetooth.

Google maps or Waze should appear on the central screen with android auto. It does with CarPlay.

Also, since the latest update to the infotainment system, the directions from phone apps appear on the virtual cockpit as the built in satnav does.

I have a Scala with Amundsen. Google maps appears through AA on the centre screen, but not in the digital dash. The directions can appear in the dash if you select route information in virtual cockpit configuration. Whilst I can view the car's own GPS map in the dash, when it comes to fine detail and complicated turns the size of the centre screen cannot be beaten.

A great benefit of Google maps is this - if you search for a destination at home (say on a phone or laptop), once your car connects to Google via AA then that destination will be in your search history on the car's screen. Very easy then to click on it and go. No faffing about finding an address using postcode in Google map search on the car.
