Which fuel? 2.0T VRS

Featured Replies

Which fuel are the RS drivers using in their new rs's?

Just got my new one, and i noticed under the filling cap, it asks for 98 ron fuel....... my old rs seemed to run fine on normal 95.......

I know the higher the ROn the quicker and easier it burns etc so higher performance - but which fuel is best?

Just to start another boring fuel debate!

Is the likes of tesco super unleaded anygood? or are the like of Shell and BP the way to go?

Over n out! :)

Try a few tank fills of Optimax, drive it hard, then a few tank fills of BP ultimate, repeat and do the same for Tesco's... I prefer Optimax, but for the FSI it may be different.

Mines had nothing but Optimax since day 1 but as I've tried nothing else I have nothing to compare it against!.

Was talking to a chap yesterday who tells me that Optimax can lead to damaged seals due to the higher burn temperatures within the cylinders. No idea how accurate that is, but I'm guessing it's only really a problem if you use it on an engine that isn't designed for it, which I'm pretty certain the TFSI is

Optimax for me. Mapped to 98 ron, and 'ere oop norf, we don't have any other 98 ron or higher, apart from Shell.

has anyone used bp ultimate?

I used BP Ultimate in my 2.0 TDi when I had it and I noticed a hell of a difference. Haven't tried swapping fuels on the Vrs yet, currently using Tesco's top RON.

It's easily obtainable and seems to do the job.

I am using Optimax in mine, 2 reasons;

Price - Optimax in local Shell garage = 97.9ppl, BP Ultimate (200yds away)

I want to try this stuff, but it would cost

Both the 1.8 and 2.0T will run fine on 95 RON its just that you wont have as much power thats all the vRS quotes 180BHP using 98RON but IIRC runs about 170BHP with 95 RON

Only used Tesco 99 ron (96.9p/litre) on mk2 vRS seems to run excellantto me ;)

True but FSI engines require 98 to work properly in stratisfied mode.

But being as the turbo FSI engine doesnt actually have an FSI mode then it doesnt matter so much on that particular engine.

see i knew a fountain or real knowledge would come along and clear it up :D cheers Lummox

Have only used optimax so far in mine (only done 4k so far). Have used BP ultimate in our Fabia 1.4 16v (it's supposed to prefer 98RON over 95RON) and couldn't tell a difference, however Optimax seemed to give sharper response, less pinking when hot & 2 mpg more.

My brother-in-law lives in Greece and has a HOT:D A3 Quattro, and has tried the lot; for a month at a time. He swears by Shell Plus which is 100RON (& I swear at his driving, scares the pants off me)!

I wonder if VAG cars don't recognise 97RON as any thing better than normal 95RON, if thats the case the our pick list should be Optimax 98RON, Tesco Super Unleaded 99RON, and BP 102RON (being tried in th Londaon area I think). Guess if BP does make this more available, then Shell may also introduce the 100RON Plus here as well.

Doesn't all this sound familiar though? Didn't we used to have 2*, 3*, 4* & in some cases 5* petrol! I can remember my Dad filling up with 3* when money was tight, instead of 4*

Anyway as SWMBO moans about the cost of a fill up I might give the Tesco stuff a try for 4 weeks, that way she gets the point & I get less ear ache! The top & bottom is I won't put any old rubbish in any car, fuel & oil is the engines life blood, so if it's naff it'll be back to Optimax & ear ache!;)

Tescos super makes a marked difference on the Nissan. However Jap cars are usually happier on higher octane fuel.

I've only put 95 in Mine as thats all we can get, the mpg is bad, 28-29. On a long journey with Motorway and National roads I'm only getting 34-35 mpg, using cruise a lot. The better fuel may improve the consumption, it seems to be better on Shifty's "If you drive normally, ive seen as high as 33mpg around town, and 40+ at 70mph."

I dunno what I'm doing wrong  .... shifty must be driving like an Old dear ;):D
