Android head unit + Canton

Featured Replies

Hi folks!

Has anyone succeeded at coupling an android unit with Canton? Cannot find any info on this issue. I'm thinking of changing the head but I have to make sure it would work with it. Thanks!

No is the simple answer.

canton will use a most network and I don’t believe there are any aftermarket options that will transmit/receive/convert the light pulses.

What light pulses, if I may ask?...

On a MK3 Octavia, the audio connection between the headunit and canton amp uses MOST-bus.

MOST-bus is based on fibre optics so it's pulses of light down plastic tubes :)

The Android headunit will probably have high and low level outputs but I've never seen one with MOST-bus. You would need a 3rd party adaptor, for example this rather expensive convertor: https://www.kufatec.com/en/volkswagen/vw-golf/golf-7-5q/headunit-replacement-adapter-with-most-amplifier-dynaudio-canton-for-vw-golf-7-skoda-octavia-5e-41333

There is the Alpine option. However it's for Alpine's own unit (with apple/android carplay). About £1000 for the unit

and extra £300 for the interface.

I suspect its worth going down the oem route at that cost even if you have to purchase an MIB2 canton amp (if you have MIB1 to begin with)

Subject closed considering the state of my budget :)

satnav isn't a big issue atm. I'd be wiser to save this money for the future mk4.
