Showing the mk1 some love

Featured Replies

Hello guys been a member for awhile. It’s now time to show some love to my 06 Vrs. I have some 17” spiders to go on. So looking for recommendations on tyre sizes.

cars now nudging 100k so looking to refresh the suspension. Think coilovers in the sub £500 bracket so again asking for recommendations also thinking to add the rear arb

brakes are 312mm on the front is it worth the bother to go vented on the rear

seats are getting tatty and I have a bad back so looking to fit some heated leathers any definitive guides to do so on here?

thinking it may be time for a remap what sort of power can you get on a standard turbo and injectors. Just after a little bit more poke with minimal smoke (Engines a BLT) if that makes a difference also who’s good for a remap in the midlands

lots of questions but looking forward to recommendations for. People with actual experience of the products

cheers

Not sure what they cost nowadays, but AP are decent and reasonably priced. Rear arb is a good addition, by all accounts.

No need for vented rear discs, but looks are a personal preference. No real gain performance wise.

I’d image retrofitting heated seats would be a challenge, but do-able. Haven’t come across any guides myself.

165/170 for a simple remap on standard turbo. Injectors good for about 240, apparently. No idea of who in your area.

Tyre size really isn't rocket science, to add one to the rim size, take five off the profile. Voila.

Hiya bud I know that way of doing it. But if you lower it and do that you can run so wondered if any one could say yeah 40mm with a 40 profile is sound

205/40/17 or 215/40/17 are the typical sizes.

rear anti roll bar is always good. H&R, Jabba and whiteline. That order starting with the stiffest.

That's the ONLY way of doing it, especially if you're slamming it, 205/40 shouldn't rub, 215/40 will rub at -40mm.

Cheers for the replies. The car is my commuter so want it to be fun on the road so would you think the white line would suffice. Was looking at the stance ultras any experience of those or better to spring for the AP’s

If you want fun don't go -40mm, slamming it all for show, not go, the VRS is already lowered compared to the standard Fabia.

Only thinking coilovers so I can close the arch gap when the 17” wheels go on 40mm or less should be enough. Quite rural where I live so don’t see the point in lowering that much you lose all the suspension travel

Yes, you just end with a bad handling car that makes you p!ss blood because it's so crashy on country roads.

My thoughts exactly all good buying a lowering kit that drops it 100mm and looks good parked. Still want to be able to use it in anger when needed

Personally unless you’re going for a decent coilovers from the likes of bilstein, KW etc then I would avoid them. You want decent dampers to make it ride well. Also lowering the front more than it already is will start to affect roll Center and bump steer in a negative way.

I run stock springs, bilstein B8’s, H&R rear anti roll bar and camber front top mounts (extra 2 deg negative camber) and it goes really well. Would look **** on 17’s though lol. Eibach springs would be the lowest I would go (-25mm). Anymore than that and you really don’t have much damper travel left.

Thanks for the reply Faboka.  Think I will probably stick with some coils as not sure on the height I need to drop it to look good and handle so the adjustment that coils offer has swayed me.

in other news out some hel lines on the front but they are to short and don’t mount to the suspension strut. So they are useless ordered a set from Mtec to go on.

can’t do much with it at the minute as the brakes are now ****e as the mines aren’t secured
