Minor electrical problems on Fabia SDI

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My first car is still running but it has some small electrical problems that I don't know how I could solve.

- The driver's window when I press the button to go up by itself (without having to press the button) when it reaches the halfway point it reverses and goes down. I have to raise it by pressing the button continuously. This also happens if I press and hold the button from the beginning, it reaches the middle and automatically goes down and until it reaches the bottom I can't raise it.

- It is not detected that the driver's door has been opened. If, for example, I leave the dipped headlights on with the engine off, take out the key and open the door, there is no warning beep. Occasionally it does it again.
This also applies to the boot lid, it does not open, you have to open another of the 3 doors for the boot lid to open, and it is because it does not detect the driver's door has been opened.

- The boot light doesn't light up 100%, it's kind of dim, sometimes it lights up completely but it's random.

- The boot light is dim all the time as well as if I leave something plugged into the cigarette lighter charger, it's as if the car doesn't cut the current in these circuits.

If you can give me any advice, I would appreciate it.

Regards.

I will tag @Breezy_Pete here as I suspect he will be along to answer shortly.

Most likely the rubber door bellows has a wire inside that is broken, stopping comms to a few other parts (has a domino effect)

Oh my gosh varooom you are on every forum hahaha you are omnipresent.

I once saw a video of a part that is inside the door, but you had to disassemble everything (panel, glass, etc ...) and what scared me the most was the key pump that had a screw that was removed in one position and I saw it complex and risky.
The piece had a kind of nipple that if dirt had accumulated on it, it would not come out and it would stay stuck inside.

What year is the car?

Sounds a bit like the anti-pinch feature is being falsely triggered. This can happen if there's extra resistance to upward motion.

Try this experiment: With window halfway open, gently pull upwards on the glass between finger and thumb, at two places, nearest the back edge, and towards the front of the pane. See if there's more movement at one end than the other. If there is, this may suggest the plastic fitting that attaches glass to window mechanism is broken at that end. This results in the glass skewing a bit on the way up, because one and only one of the lifting points is doing all the lifting.

I have a wide range of knowledge, but enough brains to just about know when to advise or call in the experts like Pete.

We have a few forum members that are like google for being able to recall previous posts and pull them up to help, most helpful in getting fast answers!

Skoda Fabia SDI 1.9 year 2005

I will take that test.

The electric window mechanism may have broken in the past, it could be that this part is broken.

What do you think about the other faults?

Thanks

As suggested by varooom, inspect wiring in the door hinge area for breakages, if none are found, the door lock module probably needs replacement.

The microswitch in the tailgate latch fitting that works the boot light is probably worn out, I will try to find a thread where this is discussed, and link to it.

Thank you for the information.

I've checked the thread and well, I understand that the simple solution would be to change the switch for the one you say you bought from Aliexpress.

I also forgot to mention another strange thing that happens, and that is that from time to time the automatic locking of the doors occurs, for example when I am driving and all the locks are closed except the driver's, and I have not activated the automatic locking for exceeding 20km/h.

I also remember that if I put the key in the cylinder and turn it to lock or unlock, only the driver's door opens, the central locking is not activated.

What worries me most is that the car does not cut the power, if I leave a USB charger connected to the cigarette lighter the led of the charger stays on, when the car should cut the power. I would like to buy one of those bluetooh devices which, when connected to the cigarette lighter, synchronises with the car radio, but if the car doesn't cut the power, I can see that the battery will run out.

The cigarette lighter socket is permanently powered, the car can never cut power to it.

@Pipe84 - As @Breezy_Pete says, except that I suspect you may also have a central locking wire in the driver's door bellows broken. Either way I'm fairly sure he'd agree to continuity check each of those wires.
