Coffee cup holders too small - any expansion adaptor recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to the forum having just picked up a new Octavia Hatch 1.5 tsi. I'm loving the car to drive, had a couple of occasional issues at the lights and reversing with the first gear and reverse not engaging properly which I'll keep an eye on having seen the other comments about it on here. My biggest gripe is with the cupholders though.....they're tiny and I'm sure I wont get a Starbucks Grande in them? Has anyone sourced a cupholder expansion adaptor that fits in them and will take the bigger cup sizes? (i'm in the UK)

I bought this one from Amazon but it doesn't fit in

Anyone have any suggestions or links to products that work and are not huge??

I tend to just put larger drinks in the door pockets.

Had a 2007 Audi A4, it had the best cup holder I’ve ever had in a car. It was mounted in the dash, you pushed it and the holder came out of the dash, it was a decent size too.

I just bought this cupholder expansion from Amazon and it's a game-changer. Yes it looks tall and big but it doesn't actually interfere with anything, and makes the cupholders functional. Very happy

I would go crazy having something that big in my cupholder. :) But that is just me. I'm glad you found something that works for you.

I thought I would too, but surprisingly because it’s tall, it doesn’t actually interfere with anything that I’m trying to do in the car. Plus, it gives functionality to the cupholders that for me previously had no functionality at all.

It’d fine in a DSG, no way I could cope with that as I have a manual ‘box.

I use a small (350ml) stainless steel insulated bottle, the grips in the holders keep it firm so I can release the top one handed and it’s low enough not to get in the way. The 500ml bottle works well too but being taller it is more obtrusive.

720°DGREE Vaccum Insulated Water Bottle “milkyBottle“ - 350ml, 500ml, 750ml, 1L - Leakproof, BPA-Free - Stainless Steel Thermo Flask for Sports, Gym, Kids, Yoga, Outdoor - Keeps Your Drinks Hot/Cold https://amzn.eu/d/7xcrveh

Those cupholders just don't seem universal, too small and frustrating to have to put some sort of expansion contraption that takes away space... trawled the internet and found travel mugs that fit perfectly though. I'll admit to being a bit chuffed to find it... megahunt though it was!!

This vid shows u can get two in next to each other and still have button access on the Enyaq at least :

Hydroflask 16oz tumblers fit in perfectly for me.

👍🏾 Just wish we had more choice.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I got the rather large cup holder thing from Amazon, and it’s working well. I also worked with a local pottery person who managed to make a very good-looking cup that FITS the tiny cup holder space. (https://www.instagram.com/deliclay.ceramics/)

The taller bottles in the Amazon cup holder are a bit in the way, but really only when you’re getting going. I find I’m leaning my arm on top of the bottle as I’m cruising, and it’s quite comfy.

Yep. For USB charging cables

I bought a 2021 Octavia recently. Love the car, hate the cupholders.

I bought about 10 cups/flasks from amazon to find the best. I kept this one and returned the rest.

Can recommend. It's a really good travel mug, looks great, and fits perfectly because it's much narrower at the bottom.

I find the cupholders fine

So do I.

I have a Thermos with a slim bottom end similar to the ones @TheWanderer listed above and it fits fine. Thankfully mine didn't cost anywhere near the equivalent of 25/30 UK pounds though, that is a hell of lot for a coffee mug 😲

This Nespresso Travel Mug fits nicely.

I took a different approach (which I think I read about here) and purchased an adaptor which is car cupholder sized at the base and wider at the top. This means that I can fit in a water bottle or later cups, which don't fit otherwise.

You can often find them a bit cheaper than on the Thermos site, Amazon or Ebay for example.

But they're excellent and keep it very hot for a good 6 hours

This one is narrow enough at the bottom to fit securely in (and is only a tenner).
Different colours available of course. Works well for me - I'd recommend.
