paddle shift

Featured Replies

Hi

Can i fit a paddle shift wheel to my dsg karoq??

any help would be helpful

Stu

With great difficulty.

Let us know how you get on.

Appears easy enough on other models, would imagine Karoq to be similar.

Not much point, I have it on mine but dsg does the changes at the right revs better 99% of the time, particularly if you put it in sport mode when max performance is needed.

I only ever use it when creeping in very slow traffic to select first or second as needed.

I agree.

I use the paddles occasionally on a steep hill, when the the Karoq insists on using engine braking even though the engine is screaming! I change up manually and use the brakes.

Do a search "Add paddles" (without the quotes) on all forums in Briskoda (not just this Karoq forum). It will give you some idea as to the sort of problems you may encounter.  I imagine the best result would be a swap with a paddle equipped steering wheel from another Karoq.

On my 1.5 dsg I only use the paddles when I need a quick overtake.  Dropping two gears is quicker than using the kick down especially when driving in Eco mode.  A slightly longer pull on the Up paddle then gets me back to Eco.

good luck

But I find it easier to just select sport with the gear selector. Only takes a second to pull it back and release and then let the dsg do its best whilst power is needed to pull out of a junction, overtake or even prepare the car to accelerate out of a sharp bend you are braking for. Then another pull on selector and back to eco or drive mode.

Nothing wrong in engine revving high for engine braking, it is designed to do this and is not burning any fuel, as shut off.

Reduces wear on brakes.

Similarly, I never use the paddles, nor change gear manually with the gear selector.  With my 'lowly' 1.0 DSG, I do also use Sport Mode via the selector quite a lot for climbing hills to avoid a slight drone from the engine trying hard at 1500-2000rpm (just sounds nicer) and for occasional overtaking, but I'm no speed merchant.  Actually, Sport mode really is a boon for the 1.0 DSG, as otherwise it wants to stay in a tall gear as much as possible.

Even going downhill, unlike the way the DSG works in the 1.5, I rarely find it dropping into a lower gear to slow the car down - strange.

In spite of the small engine, on motorways there's still plenty of umphh available at 70mph in 7th, for lively acceleration to 80 or 90 in order to get past a collection of slow moving vehicles.

Reduces wear on brakes.

But increases wear on engine and gearbox. Brakes are cheaper to fix.

@stuupnorth what Karoq / engine so DSG are you getting?   Yes paddles can be fitted after the correct wheel purchased.  Maybe fitted by A N Other.     Lots of different drive styles in the posts above on several different engines and DSG,s.

Ageing hooligan here and when I'm in my wife's 190 TDI, I rarely, if ever, use the paddles.  I have the Individual Mode set to Sport apart from the artificially weighted steering.  I use that almost all the time and then crack on.

Slightly off topic but how do you select reverse on the paddles ?

Yo can not select reverse on the paddles, gear stick only

You don't.    You select P, N, R, D, or S with the shifter, use the paddles to shift gear if you have them and want to,

or the shifter goes to Manual & use that for changes or the paddles.
