Great difficulty to do a simple job of checking a fuse.

Featured Replies

I have an adapter that I use in my car to allow me to recharge my iphone and Samsung tablet while I am driving my 2016 Skoda Scout.

The adapter stopped working so I checked to see if there was voltage at the 12Volt socket between the front seats.  There was no voltage so I assumed the fuse could be blown.

I checked the Owner's Manual which indicated fuse no 40 was the relevant fuse.   I then tried to access the fusebox which is apparently behind the glovebox.

I tried and tried to remove the glove box without success and was left wondering why Skoda made it so difficult to access the fuse box.   I have owned numerous cars in my lifetime but none of them were as difficult to access the fuse box as this car.

If any owner can advise me how to easily remove the glovebox I would really appreciate it.  Of course, I could pay a Skoda agent to replace the defective fuse but I don't feel like paying a lot of money for what should be a simple task.

It’s very easy to remove the glovebox when you know how, it should also be in the owners manual.

open the glovebox about half way then simply pull it straight up off its hinges and the entire glovebox comes out

The rear 12v socket is on the same circuit. Check that has power or not.

There are also youtube videos

Personal advice here. Also have a long narrow screwdriver or stick of some sort as well. Makes it easier to remove and reseat the damper rod that is connected to the glovebox.

Thank you members for all the responses.

I was eventually able to remove the glove box and found that the fuse for the 12V sockets was missing.   Unfortunately, unlike other cars I have owned there were no spare fuses included with the car and I had to travel thirty kilometers to a motor parts supplier to buy the required fuse.

Whilst I like my Skoda,  I do not like that the glove box has to be removed to access the fuse box.  I could not imagine replacing a fuse at the side of a dark country road when heavy rain was falling and when your car is carrying four passengers.    Skoda can do better than this!

It does make the daily fuse inspection hard work, admittedly.

I don't think it's unusual for the fuse box to be behind the glove box, it'll be the same for other VAG cars and it certainly is on some Fords.

That being said, I can't remember the last time I blew a fuse so I don't see it as a big issue :D

What are you actually inspecting for daily?

Perhaps the Fuse Fairies that removed Hobartians fuse?

It's only because of the right hand drive conversion that it's behind the glovebox.

It would have been good if there was just a little more space provided to get the damper strut back on though.
