Rear Brake noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

In the last few days the rear Brakes on my 1018 Karoq with only 8000 miles have started making a groaning noise when the pedal is applied . but only when I am reversing.

There is plenty of life left in the pads and very little sign of wear on the discs. I think that I have read somewhere that Skodas  have had a problem with pad material in the past.

Can anyone comment or offer advice as to solution.

Thanks,

Keith

Not saying this is what your exact issue is but VW group have history here, even on cars which were a few months old. Replacing the pads sorted that issue out but out on a 4 year old car or even a relatively new one with 8000 miles on the clock, it'll be treated as 'wear and tear' so up to you to replace. ( if that's what the problem is ).

Our Polo suffered from "squeaky rear brakes when reversing" early in it's life, but all is ok now.

I never discussed it with a dealer.

I think giving the brakes some good exercise occasionally does take the stickiness off them.

And checks out your ABS at the same time.

My 2021 Edition has the squealy brakes when reversing mostly when I have not used the car much. After a good long run the squeal does not happen.

Had rear brake squeal on my 68 karoq and recently had the rear pads replaced cost £200. But its only money and I cant take it with me and reversing is quiet now.

For just the pads or the discs as well? Rear pad replacement shouldn't cost that much.

labour charge £156 + pads £61    I'm not complaining

New front discs and pads on my 18 reg Karoq £195 at my independent garage.

Dealer wanted £460 ish to get it through the MoT at 5 years and 34500 miles !
