2018 Octavia Scout tyres

Featured Replies

Purchased my car as a 6 month old ex demonstrator with high spec that included  225/45 R18 95W  tyres. I live in a rural location and need to contend with rough roads. Having said that the majority of my driving is on motorways.I’ve owned the car just over 4 years and at every service I get notified of at least two of the tyres need to be replaced urgently. I had four new tyres fitted last February and today have been advised that 2 need replacing urgently (illegal). I wonder if the low profile tyres together with the rough roads I travel on is the problem . I would like advice on the best tyre size to fit the wheels I have. Thank you in advance.

There's lots of options, but what you need is more sidewall height to prevent the tyres from being damaged by the rough roads.

Fitting tyres with more sidewall height to your current 18" rims will make the outside diameter of the tyres too big. Therefore, to get more sidewall height you need smaller diameter rims such as 16".

225/60R16 tyres fitted to 7Jx16 ET45 5/112 57.1 rims (from the Yeti) is one option.

Should also make sure it's actually the rough bits that's causing the issue. It could be bad alignment.

I would also argue that 45 isn't that low. It's by no means tall but low is more like 35. I have 235/45/18 on the Passat and there is quite a lot of rubber there to cushion the bumps.
