Ignition problems. Where to start!?

Featured Replies

The question.

Which part HAS to be replaced?

So the key won't turn in the ignition.

Does the whole steering lock barrel (bolted to the steering column) need to be replaced or.

Does the key barrel just need to be replaced.

Have you tried spraying some WD40 into the barrel?

Thanks chimaera.

Yeah, sure have. Always start with the basics first.

I was wondering which part causes the failure. Is it the key cylinder pins? The key itself doesn't look overly worn.

Oh, and I can't check the spare key as it doesn't exist.

When the key is just sitting in the ignition, it doesn't seem like the steering locks if the wheel is moved from side to side. Is that normal or is that a further problem?

Steering only locks after the key is removed. It can also be really difficult to turn the key if there's a lot of pressure on the steering lock, so check what it's like when you turn the wheel away from the lock. Ignition lock cylinder can be replaced without replacing the housing.

So what was the solution? Which part did you change? As I have the same problem, key goes in but doesn’t turn and the steering lock will not engage
