Water leak

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!!

Bough my Skoda Kodiaq few months ago, its from 2019.

Didnt had any problem...till few weeks ago.

With the heavy rain and the "snow" or ice i noticed that there is some water on the back of the car, on top left, by the boot.

Anyone had any bad experience like that????

Any help would be appreciated 😪😪

HI, welcome to forum.

There are a few threads on the forum with the same/similar issues and there is no quick answer to what you might be having. Based on location of your dampness you can check rear door seals, in my case it was a leaky seal between the speaker and the door.

If that's the roof just inside the tailgate, what condition are the rubber gaiters connecting to the tailgate in?  Do you have sunroof?

Thank you for your reply! Maybe this has started to happening since a rear dash cam has been installed, can really precise. I noticed that the rubber seal(where the dash cam goes through ) is a little loose, not completely closing I reckon, maybe it goes from there the water?but again, that is in the middle and the water goes to the left??🙈

Looking at that picture and what I've investigated leak-wise on ours in the past I'd say that is definitely the culprit.  Chances are the clips that hold it in place were broken when the camera was fitted.

Dry it and seal round all four sides of that and I reckon you'll have the leak fixed

Thank you for your reply!!

I will buy some sealant and do that and see if it changes anything, hopefully that will sort it!!!

🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Everytime someone posts with wet headlining and no sunroof then the first question is 'have you had a rear dash cam fitted?'.

I'm not sure if it's ham fisted fitters, a dodgy design or both, but the rubber conduit / bellows already highlighted are a common cause of water ingress.

Thank you for you reply @silver1011!

Going to put some silicone on it today, and see if it sorts the problem, hopefully yes.

I will post If it worked or not.

To be honest, i never noticed that that rubber was that loose or not connected properly, hopefully that is the only issue.🤞🤞

What holds the gaiters into the holes in the bodywork out of interest?  More thank just the rubber of the gaiter pressumably.

Yes ..   the rubber fits to a white plastic fitting that then clips into the bodywork.  I didn't know this so when I tried to remove mine to check them I broke part of the white plastic as I tried to remove the whole lot rather than the rubber gaiter from the white plastic.

I would not be putting any sealant on that part.

It is a rubber gasket that is meant to be held tight to the bodywork with a plastic inside piece, Its either been damaged/bent. and needs repairing/replacing.

If you put a sealant on it, it moves with the tailgate lid and its only gonna come off again/split the sealant and also not bond very well to the bodywork/paint.

I've had no problems having sealed the rubber gaiter to the bodywork about 18 months ago with polysulphide windscreen sealant / gasket.  If it does leak it's a ten minute job to fix again and doesn't need the boot trim and wiring stripping out to thread through a new gaitor and inner plastic piece.

By all means fix it using a new part but it'll be a ballache of a job

I’ve got exactly the same problem with my Kodiak on the upper left side of the tailgate. I haven’t had anything like a camera fitted, it’s just got worse I’ve rage last few months. It’s in with the dealer today so I’ll see what they say!

Do you have a sunroof?  If so check out this Tiguan video which may be of interest.  I wouldn't vouch for what they guy's doing per se, but it's pretty easy to see where problems could arise and I imagine the Kodiaq isn't too different.

I have the same problem. May I know the cause and how to fix it. Thanks.🙏🙏

Same water ingress at same location on mine (not sunroof équipes).

Probably because of rear dash cam installation. I also broke the white plastic part fixing the rubber hose to bodywork and tailgate. I had used silicone though, since the hose was loose.

I´ll make the silicone seal once again, since I wasn’t fully happy with the result…

Silicone done once again, but I paid much more attention when I did it this time.

In particular, I used very soft tennis ball (red ones) to press the rubber hose firmly on the bodywork, and then closed the tailgate like this. to avoid any gap. Hope this works! 🤞

I let this dry over night and see how it is tomorrow. I'll take a pic of this tennis balls method. ;)

That's similar to what I did with mine albeit I used some foam packing I had available to hold it all in place when I closed the hatch
