Fabia ABS issue

Featured Replies

Hi

I've recently replaced front wheel bearings, drove it about 40-50 km and the ABS light came on. Fault code (vcds 00285) pointed at front right ABS sensor. I replaced the sensor, cleared fault codes and drove it for about 50 meters and ABS light came on again. Same fault code.

I've checked wiring between abs module and sensor, everything's fine.

I also have an issue connecting to ABS module with VCDS, only works sometimes. I have a simpler fault code reader for VAG cars and have no problem connecting with that.

Now I'm thinking bad magnetic ring in new bearing or broken ABS unit.

Or, could it be something else?

How were the new bearings installed? With or without Gen2 tooling?

I have a vague recollection that some code readers get the codes confused and tell you the wrong wheel.  Might just be worth getting it checked with a different reader or replacing the other sensor for the sake of a few quid?

Edit ..  scratch that I've just twigged you used vcds...   I thought you'd used the basic reader.  Sorry

Not sure, had a workshop do this because I don't have the Gen2 tools. Gonna check with them. Would it be possible to replace the bearings without the Gen2 tools and not damage the bearing? (Good to know when I contact the workshop)

If you didn't have the correct tooling you'd have to make something equivalent, that could get in behind the hub and correctly push on the outer of the bearing behind it.

Have you seen the correct tooling in action on YouTube?

I've had intermittent ABS faults before when changing bearings and sensor, it was due to bad connection on sensor plug to loom. Check connection and clean with contact spray. Could be the reason for intermittent working.
