Brake pad sensor connection - how to separate?

Featured Replies

This question has the makings on an 'easy when know how' situation, but struggling to separate the connection between the pad and the loom on the suspension leg. Is there a knack or technique? Asking as don't want to pull in the wrong way and damage the connection.

Thanks

Some photos might be useful.

If it's like the one, then it looks like there's some kind of safety clip that needs to be held open before you can pull the two connectors apart.

Take a look at the connector on your new set of brake pads.

Fair point in that a picture is worth a 1000 words! For identification, this is the connector, but not mine as the photo has lifted from a different thread - separated in this example.

That's exactly the connector that I'm looking to separate. Have pushed and pulled on clips that I can see, but with no luck yet. Haven't pull too hard as trying to be careful not to damage the loom. Is there one specific clip that needs to be pushed/pulled?

Have you looked at the clip on your new brake pads?

That should show you how to push/pull and how much.

If the old connectors are dirty and/or slippery, it might be worth cleaning them first.

Also, wearing rubber gloves can sometimes help improve friction and/or using masking tape to increase surface friction.

Just bumping this query to check if there's a simple technique/process to follow to spilt the brake pad connector? Pull back a tab somewhere, or press with a small blade screwdriver at a specific point?

Perfect- thank you very much.

It's the best video around but it also poor in that he inititially says to "push the connector plug then push the lever in" which is incorrect, when he releases it his finger is covering the detent lever and you can't realy see what he is doing, it's a bit clearer the 2nd time round where he correctly says "push the connector in and then pull back on the tab".

The mantra to remember is push then pull.
