The other way round. Original 280 has port and direct injection. 272 has direct only with GPF. Current 280 is also direct injection with gpf.

Thank you for clarifying that. 👍

  • I have the same 272.sportline plus. Late 2018 68 plate. Velvet red.  it is 7speed dq381 better box. Does rev lower at motorway speeds. It has gpf AND it still has exhaust flaps if you are that way i

  • Cant believe mine will be 8 years old this October ! Still zero interest of swapping it for anything else.

  • Only thing on a 272 I would want in my 280 is the 7speeder. Makes for much lower revs at motorway speeds.    The 220 with 6speeder is iirc geared differently to the 280 despite same gearbox

I am not sure about the year but am certain it came into effect when the 272 was launched. Probably around 2019?  Since then it's just direct injection. Any 272 and 280 that is newer than a 272 will be direct injection only.

Yes port injection helps to reduce carbon buildup on the intake valve plenum and valve stems. Just a side benefit as the intention of port injection is to reduce particulates. This is why the direct injection only engines has a GPF.

This has come up before. Could one of the experienced mechanics clear this up, please? @varooom & @Crasher, can you advise?

Are there EA888-engined Skoda vehicles with both port injection AND a GPF?

It's my understanding that my car has both a GPF as well as port injection.

I know it has port injection, because I can see it, but I'm not sure about the GPF. (I say I know, but I think it's reasonable to assume Skoda has  fitted fake port injection. If it is fake, then I stand corrected.)

Have a look under the car and see if you can see the GPF. It looks just like a DPF on a diesel.

It will look pretty much like this.

You can save crawling around if you look at the top/back area of your engine.  Look for black/grey heat wrap with some buttons usually, and if you pop them open to reveal this, you have GPF.

Reminds me of the similar thing in front of the drivers bulkhead DPF pressure sensor because I had one replaced on a TDI.

Correct, the DPF or GPF will use a G450 or G505 sensor 🤝It will look same, along with a pipe(s) down to the filter.
