0 fuel on gauge?

Featured Replies

I replaced the fuel pump on my 1.2 12V Fabia recently due to another issue, however I had a quarter of a tank on the gauge before replacing it. It then said 3/4 of a tank after replacing it and filling up with £30 worth of fuel it now said it is at 0 fuel. And a fuel symbol comes on (assuming) saying that I am using reserve fuel. Any idea on how to fix?

Was the replacement pump secondhand?

At some time in the mk1 history they changed the way the fuel gauge sender works. Sounds like you may have a mismatch.

Brand new from AUTODOC. Said it was correct …

Places like Autodoc and ECP often get such things wrong.

Next time I get up I'll have a look at (genuine) part numbers and when the change was.

Do you still have the old pump, and why did you replace it?

I'm not certain, but I think that @Breezy_Pete is correct, with the note that somehow the connections have been reversed such that more fuel in tank gives lower readings. Try driving ~100 miles and see if the gauge rises relative to the present reading.

pretty sure the old pump is now in the bin. I replaced it due to the car not starting, i made a post a week or two ago about it and by looking at a ton of videos and after changing the spark plugs i came to that assumption. And i believe i was correct as now it runs as it did, however with a wrong fuel gauge and also the airbag light which is now on.

ill drive to college tomorrow which is about 15 miles so 30 miles total. Hopefully the fuel float moves and corrects itself, it is a windy 50mph road so im hoping it does the trick

I think this has been seen before.

Was just looking at part numbers now, for the petrol engines, 6Q0919051 suits pre-facelift cars like yours, 6Q0919051F suits cars from MY2005 onwards as far as I can see from these two pages:

Fuel Pump China 6Q0919051 (skoda-parts.com)

Fuel Pump Bosch 6Q0919051F (skoda-parts.com)

What does the Autodoc part you bought claim as equivalent OEM part number?

This is the pump that i bought https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ridex/8056115, according to autodoc it said that it was correct for my car. (53 plate 1.2 12v petrol). Is it compatible?

Well that page claims equivalence with both the numbers I've suggested, and more, but the skoda-parts.com pages I linked for you do not suggest that the two are equivalent.

Those pages specifically mention different applicability (pre- and post-face-lift cars), so I think you've fallen victim to over-generalisation by Autodoc. PITA if you have to try to return to Berlin.

The pumps are usually very reliable, I'd go 2nd hand off ebay if it were me.

Yeah that is a massive PITA. Would it be okay to drive though? Just make sure that my tank is always somewhat full up? I don't really have the money right now to spend anymore on parts which might not work.

Yeah, no problem to drive, especially if you don't fill it up so much that you (mis)trigger the low fuel warnings.

Carry a spare 5L can in the boot though, for when you forget it's backwards and run out.

No worries,  but do look back at my edit to previous post. Might be a handy precaution.

That’s a shout. Will make sure to get one when I can.

For why? This is normally a latching warning that will require VCDS or similar dealer grade software to cancel, and is also an MoT failure.

It’s another issue I need to deal with, only came on after fixing the fuel pump issue. My thought is I might have unclipped something underneath my drivers seat.

I have a VCDS cable so I’ll have a look at it when I have the chance.

That's possible yes.
