Temporary accident repair tape

Featured Replies

My OSR door got a knock and will need to be replaced.  As the door is buckled, a gap has appeared between the door frame and the roof.  Does anyone know of a tape that I could apply that'll keep the car weatherproof until repairs can be carried out and which won't damage the paintwork on the roof?

Hi, good quality Duct Tape should be ok - especially if it's not left in place for months. There are some tapes available that are relatively 'low-tack'.

Gorilla tape might be a little too aggressive.

Bad luck with the damage 😭 - did something hit the door while it was open?

Thanks - I'll have a look for something that's not too sticky.

Something hit the door while it was closed, most likely a bumper from something that sits a little higher - an SUV of some sort.  Luckily, damage is mostly to the door itself.

Don’t use duct tape. It eats into paint very quickly.

There is a film used by windscreen companies and auction houses that is literally for this exact job - only thing is I don’t know the name of it.

it’s a big clear adhesive sheet that can be stuck over any opening.

hopefully this helps you find it?

There is a silicone "Repair tape" on the market, which might suit your needs.

I have used it on a radiator hose that lt go while towing.

Helicopter Tape is fine. Be it from 3M or any on amazon, Ebay or anyplace else.   Not the real stuff for Helicopters, but much the same,

Used on mountain bike frames etc. When removing you just need to heat with a hair drier, or low heat heat gun.

Thanks everyone.  I was only able to get low tack duct tape at short notice.  It'll keep me going for a few days until I get helicopter tape or similar.  I have two repair quotes now and just need to do the sums on an insurance claim and see how soon I can get it fixed.
