AGM start/stop Battery recommendations Superb 2014 tdi 2.0

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My battery is about to die, any recommendations for a good replacement? I've bought from Tayna batteries in the past and had good service, was looking at Halfords range as I can collect today but read some bad reviews about their own brand.

Thanks

Take a picture of what is fitted, if you have AGM it will not likely die in the day or two you have to wait for Tanya to deliver.

The most likely size you have is 096 but you should check dimensions

Varta is my own personal preference as they are fitted at factory, mine lasted 7 years and was replaced before it went kaput, so might have gone to 8-9 years maybe.

Bosch should be made in same place as Varta, all the other brands I do not know if they are worth your money.

Yes that's what is fitted to mine now as replacement.

Just check the dimensions quickly before ordering, but 99.9% sure you've got it.

Yep already checked dims, will order today.

Thanks again for your quick reply. Did you code it after fitting?

Thanks

Yes I did Adapt it when fitting, and gave it a damn good charge also.

If you read the document, you may be fine to drop in and turn steering wheel full lock each way and go.

As you are going AGM to AGM with near as dammit the same Ah ratings you can drive it.  In a perfect World get it adapted, and you can do it down the line if needed.

Marvelous, with VCDS you should be golden.

Battery arrived today but no serial number for coding on it anywhere unless my eyesight is playing tricks?

Done some research, I think the label is missing? Should be stuck to the White patch on the right hand side?

That's not a problem, simply change one digit in the previous battery serial number - or even create your own number, one member has suggested using a number with the date in it I.e. dd.mm.yy or yy.mm.dd and add sufficient digits to match previous SN format.

Not overly worried about the coding at the minute but new battery coming today..my question is does the plastic outer jobby have to come out to change the battery(maybe easier access to the clamp) and if it does how do I remove it...my Vrs only has the fabric cover round so that was simple..

Many thanks and apologies for asking my question on Besters post.

Greetings.

I watched a you tube video where some guy was meant to be showing how to remove and replace and he just made a pigs ear of it and made it look difficult especially getting to clamp.he even discarded the fabric cover because he couldn't get it back in.That was main reason for my question...I have since looked at clamp location and I can get to  easily.

Radio working well...Blower working well so hopefully Battery will do to.🙂👍

Thanks for your help as always.

Ah, imagine throwing away the fabric cover that stops the battery from premature death.

They are a tight fit those, real snug, but not impossible.

Best of luck with your swap.

Ordered Varta e39 at 2pm yesterday..just arrived...Battery Group £141.

Great Service.👍👍

Was your old one an AGM or was it written EFB on top?

Asking as you should have the fabric cover (fibreglass or something like that) for heat resistance, not the plastic cover you mentioned about.

It's an Agm..its got the fabric cover and that is inside the plastic frame thing that the battery sits inside.👍

Fitted my new battery just now, easier than I thought. Once the top cover is off you can get good access to the clamp. I pulled off the front half of the surrounding plastic cover and once the terminals are disconnected, it lifted out easily. The jacket came out with it and slid off and onto the new battery. I inserted the new battery with it's jacket on, more space than I thought. The jacket is fairly rigid so stays in place. Refitted the front half of the surround, again easily.

Did the plastic front cover come off easy.

When I came to do the coding, module 61 didn't give me the option to change anything so had to go through module 19. According to the Ross Tech you tube video, there is a drop down menu that selects address 04 but there wasn't an option in the drop down so had to select 04 manually. This showed what was already stored and you can see it in the photo, not what I was expecting. Anyway I kept the format and changed to the new battery. Can anyone confirm this is correct as it goes against the you tube video?

Thanks

Yes, just pull upwards.

@Bestersthat looks like it stored correctly.

I've got no new fault codes so I'll see how it goes. The start/stop is now working.

I did query the lack of BEM code on my battery, here is the reply from Tayna.
