Method of Bleeding the Cooling System Without Special Tool?

Featured Replies

Am about to do a coolant flush on my 2017 MK3 Octavia. I do have VCDS for doing the bleed after, but don't currently have the vacuum tool to bleed the coolant circuit..

I saw on a YT video that the coolant could be bled by removing the coolant temperature sensor, letting the coolant run out and then replacing.

Has anyone had experience of this? I don't want an airlock nightmare as many have done & I'm prepared to buy the gear if necessary, but if it is just a case of removing the coolant sensor then I'd rather do that..

TIA

Any ex Skoda techs out there who can advise please?

You haven’t told us what engine you have?

im going to assume a tdi.

If that’s the case then simply fill the coolant to the top and you need to run the odis bleed routine called ‘cooling system vent’ it’s a 900second routine that runs all pumps at different stages.

You don’t need to vacuum fill the coolant system although it does help if you had one.

now if you have a different engine please let us know

What about 1.4 TSI? Same procedure?

Thank you - sorry, yes it's a 1.6 Tdi - I assumed it would be the same cooling system for both engines. Thanks again - I'll proceed as you have suggested.

I would also interested to know how to do it for a 1.4 TSI engine.

I used the following method of changing the coolant. So maybe you can use the same method to flush the system with distilled water?

The car was up to work temperature and with heating set to max in order to have all coolant circles open and using a coolant meeting the TL-VW 774 L standard(like G12Evo), because I don't have silica bag in the coolant tank anymore. I did this on the 5th year because I don't plan to change my timing belt soon.

Should be applicable for all Mk3 engines.
