Octavia 1.9 TDI 4x4 - no Anti skid?

Featured Replies

Thanks for the input (from all of you!). Interesting point about accellerating when losing traction - totally against what I would do intuitively with my Tercel.

I would rather ease up till traction is regained.

Does that also apply to loss of traction in corners?

Lifting the throttle would be the typical reaction to suit a FWD car - it's the reaction that comes instinctively, hence the inherent safety advantage of a FWD car.

However, I found that applying more power worked better in the Legacy I had - with 50/50 split. The Octavia 4x4 is slightly more of an understeerer compared to the Subaru, and lifting the throttle works fine too for that car. On a straight, yes, giving more throttle actually helps...

If you by "in corners" mean i.e. during a curve, I guess you would already have too much speed, and in this type of situation, I usually give a little more gas on the Tercel - as long as I am not going too fast already... with loads of curves, it could get interesting :)

I was in my post referring to the situation where you are driving slowly in slippery snow - or perhaps just starting out - where slipping occurs instead of the car moving forward...

Re Variable split 4WD

A recent example I can give is with the 2001 Subaru Legacy 2.5 I had at the start of the year. We rarely get much snow in the South of England and I was lucky enough to be ski-ing in Scotland for 2 days when there had been a heavy (for us!) fall of 8 inches / 20cms.

My Legacy had an automatic gearbox and a 4WD system that works differently to the manual Legacy (Mattijs!). This works by transferring extra power to the rear only when needed - the same principle as the Haldex 4x4, rather than a 50/50 split.

The ski car park was mainly empty and the snow was fresh, so I had lots of practice on normal tyres at starting, stopping and sliding around. For traction, as you tried to set off (20cms remember) there was brief wheelspin and I backed off to try again. This was the WRONG! - I found that if I pushed the accelerator and held it in the same position, the electronics realised what was happening and the car set off perfectly every time. I will be doing the same with the Octavia if we get snow! The car was very predictable in snow with power on - if you need to lift off, do it gently rather than suddenly...:)

Long live the Tercel and its 'inclinometer'. I once indicated 175kmh downhill :blinker:

Welcome Octopus!

Obviously you get *very* different models over there. Although the PD130 has just been introduced here, the only other diesels that have been used in the Octy have been the 1.9SDi and the two 1.9TDi variants (90bhp and 110bhp). These are previous-generation diesels, not PD.

JayTee managed to squeeze 154bhp out of his 110 L&K, so you wouldn't be far wrong with 160 I would have thought (if it is a 110 engine). Apparently 150 is achievable with the 100PD engine in the Fabia (I'm sure Jason will be gagging to tell us post-Jabba).

The 4x4 1.9 TDI Octy is a 74Kw/100HP PD (red Di in TDi). I gues with 150HP, it would be a good match for the 1.8T 150HP :D

ps. how can I add info on who I am

Use "QUOTE="' date=' like this :-

If you click on the "Quote" link below and to the right of the post you want to quote, it will open up a posting window with the quote tags already in place.

EDIT: The brackets around "[" and "]" are just there to stop the text being displayed as a quote.

Unless the 1.8T has been tickled a little ;)

The PD100 engine in the Fabia is the same as in the LHD Octavia 4x4 TDI Comfort/Elegance.

The PD130 engine is only available in L&K spec for the 4x4. Well, I say "only", but you wish you had it in the UK...

Interesting that we've never had the PD100 engine in *any* Octy here.

Poor relations... :(

Hmmmm. PD130 L&K 4x4 + Jabba. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. If only. 180bhp and all that lovely torque. We can but dream.

... Audi make the car you are after. Mind you, the one I had was listed at

Apparently there will be a PD130 4x4 in the new octavia.

Apparently

Please elaborate... :D

Several people (including me) been told that the UK dealers have been told there will be.....

Which means you (and others) have been told that there will be a new 4x4. Any dates being mentioned? At the new-model launch or somewhere later down the line?

What did those dealers say of a new vRS? I.e., will there be one, now with homologation needs having shifted towards the Fabia?

Correction! We don't have it here either!

That's what you get when combining the 4x4 and L&K pricelists in one leaflet, and then combine that with a halfwit reading it...

There's just one L&K 4x4 on the continent and that's the 1.8T, in both Hatchback and Combi versions. I'm afraid the L&K PD130 is FWD, as is the L&K TDI 110 non-PD.
