Car is 1.9tdi elegance estsate with 22000 coming up on 2 year old.

Mechanically totlay sound. Been to dealer only for fitting of cruise control.

Only voted good as one ot two dash rattles, hopefully which will be sorted at first service next week.

TDi 110 elegance estate. Car bought new end of May 2003, just over 30,000.

Brilliant car, only thing ever faulty was front passenger speaker!

My Mk1 vRS was the most reliable car I have had. My previous cars all cost some additional money and in one case needed a biggish fix to a simple mechanical part. That said the Boxster hasnt let me down in 12 months motoring.

The vRS let me down twice in 5 years, through the failure of 2 coilpacks which at the time was a common issue with the VAG 1.8T engine. The part has been redesigned now and doesnt have the problem.

2004 octavia tdi 130bhp. voted good as the car is only 2yrs old. to early to say most reliable. only prob so far was squeeky back seat. would give them

2001 TDi 110 elegance estate.

89k miles

replaced so far:

- MAF (twice) [edit]

- n75 valve [edit]

- Turbo

- Clutch

- Clutch master cylinder

- Clutch slave cylinder

- Clutch hydraulic pipe

- Windscreen (but that was that was not really the cars fault!)

Soon to be replaced:

- Front disks (warped - but not by my driving!)

- Front shocks (o/s is leaking)

- Rear shocks (o/s is leaking)

Problems:

- wiper mechanism failed (due to the o-rings letting water in)

- drivers seat belt fails to recoil quickly

- very low front bumper - caused gf to remove part of the plastic air ducting on a curb,

which needed replacing :-(

- gear level / kn0b rattles when in 3rd

Previous to this car I owned a F plate Nova for a couple of years and never did a thing to it, and sold was a good working vehicle, and then a 306 HDi (T plate) and that served me without problems for 3 years.

The Octy so far has failed to give me the reliablity I was hoping for :-(

Plus my commute to work is tripling in mileage from Monday, so I expect a whole load of more things to break / fall off now!!!

1999 Slx TDI estate 93000m. Has been reliable I have done 43000m in last 2 years. Problems have been 2x failed wheel bearings, failed drivers door lock 1x air mass meter and 1 x abs wheel sensor.

Ground clearance is poor

MPG is excellent averaging 55mpg on rural roads

Seat comfort average.

I was not that impressed with the main dealer so now use a local independant VW specialist(

Somewhat limited feedback on my part, but

Bought 1998 GLX 1.9TDi hatchback with 60k on the clock 3 weeks ago p>Since had to replace:

1) MAF&lt

2) Relay 109

3) Drivers Door Lock

4) Boot Handle

Car's now at 64k

I suppose i expected to do something, otherwise why did they sell the car!

I think mine was built using the junk they found in a skip :(

and just remembered about maf x2 and n75 as well, so have edited initial post.

Almost 3 year old vRS, 27000 miles it's been totally reliable - never missed a beat.

02 vRS, 47500 miles

So far only problem was caused by a turbo inlet pipe failure - cured by fitting an APR TIP.

The car has the odd rattle and squeak but I consider this normal for any mass manufactured car after nearly 50000 miles of driving

sorry I forgot, 1x brake sensor!

Which I think is damn good for a 5 year old car and 60,000 miles!

No complaints from me, 110 TDI - L & K, Bought it new in May 2002 coming up for 50000 miles, and up till now that has only been during six months every year due to my work rota, only replacements have been brake discs and pads, tyres a couple of times, and last week a N/S front wheel bearing, all fair wear and tear stuff.

There are now a few creaks, squeaks and groans from various places, but as the car is abused rather than used I have to say its the best motor I have ever had.

I've had mine 1 year now and I bought it when it was 3 and a half years old, with 92,000 on the clock. Now it has 113k on it, and I've replaced the following parts:

* Front discs (warped, juddered under braking. Had them replaced under the 12 month used car warranty. It's now doing it again after 18k miles)

* Brake light switch (under warranty)

* All four shock absorbers (£530 including the following two items)

* Front wishbone rear bushes

* Front wipers

* Rear discs (not done them yet but they're an MOT advisory)

* Anti-roll bar bushes (it knocks at low speed)

* Two front tyres (£90 each)

It'll need two rear tyres soon-ish. The ARB bushes will be about £70 fitted; not sure about the rear brakes. I think it needs 4WA again as it wanders about at speed (had it done with the shock absorbers a few months ago). I had a variable service too, which was a very reasonable £189, plus Cruise Control fitted which was another £165, and an MOT (£44).

Plus it is horribly littered with stone chips. There's about 20 of them on the bonnet alone, most of them through the paint down to bare metal.

Excluding fuel and depreciation (and the CC), that's about £100 a month or 6p/mile.

I do know my dealers by their first names, and a few chaps at JBS auto too, so that's what I ticked. I can't really complain for the amount I paid for the car though. Fingers crossed I'm not going to need any more consumables any time soon (like more bushes, steering joints, clutch, engine sensors, etc).

Very late (almost '02) 2001 Octy Vrs. 31k miles (4k of them are mine), FSSH.

- Indicator / warning relay fault.

- Rear wiper / wash fault.

- CD Multiplayer very tempremental....

Voted average mainly because I havn't really had the car long enough to make a judgement either way, and with the niggley faults I can't really say that its the 'perfect' car... but this is definatley the most impressed I have ever been with a car.. and I had 13 others to compare it against! Try putting a cleaning CD through the changer and cleaning off the connector to it. The leaking rear wiper/wash can cause corrosion on the connector

03 Octavia vRS, approx 40K

1: Seat covers replaced

2: Some aircon Switch replaced

3: Nosiey ARB bushes

4: Dampers replaced

5: Various creaks and rattles around car ( I reckon its Irish roads)

6: Gearbox and clutch replaced after complete failure! ( at only 37K)

7: New maf

8: leaking rear wash wipe (VAG generic though as my dads Golf estate suffered the same)

9: radiator mounts knackered

10: seat belts **** poor at retracting even after dealer has looked at it

so all in all not a very relaible car imho, I do like it it but I wont be tempted into the new one in all my years of driving its the first gearbox i ve lost and I ve only ever replaced one clutch before... reckon I'll be back to Jap for my next motoring purchase

It has been suggested on here to try cleaning the edge of the seat belts with something like some baby wet-wipes. I have to say I have not tried this yet on mine....

2003 Octy Elegance TDi 130, bought 7 months ago with 64k, now at 73k. Problems so far

- replaced wiring loom in drivers door (corroded connectors)

- air con stopped working, not fixed yet

- cruise control stopped working, not fixed

- minor coolant leak, tried radweld sealant, so far so good

- air bag needed reset with vag.com today, hope that cures it!

- sqeaking from front suspension on speed ramps

But good points are that it drives really well, and gives me 55+ mpg, sometimes over 60mpg

The suspension will probably be ARB related farside and mine were changed under warrenty.

Can't really comment with certainty as I've only had the car (52 reg TDi110 Elegance, bought on 62_000 give or take 10 miles) for about 7 weeks and 1_000 miles, but new auxiliary drivebelt tensioner and alternator in that milage hardly confidence inspiring.

I've had mine 3 years bought from new, OCtavia 1.9SDI. Done 24000miles. Only problem I've had is the rear washer hose became detached and soaked the boot. Fixed under warranty. The car has been totally reliable.

2004 Elegance Estate, 1.9 TDI PD130 97,000 miles.

The only thing that has misbehaved is the CD auto changer.

It's had new front and rear discs once and more tyres than I care to remember.

The bodywork is covered in small chips and scratches as well.

The one big annoyance is that the brake fluid reservoir cap keeps undoing itself.

Generally the car has been driven very hard and has spent most of its life running with a dragon box and loaded to the gunnells with tools but it still plods on regardless.

We had a twin octavia on our company fleet until last week, 52,000 miles and nothing went wrong on that either.

I hope the new ones are just as good.

vRS Estate coming up to 3 years old

32400 Miles - 8000 done by me

The only warranty claim so far has been the high level brake light

Very pleased with it. When I got the car in December it would average around

35 miles to the gallon but now the warm weather is here it struggles to get

above 30 mpg - thats the trouble with dry roads!
