LCR Brembo brake upgrade on a vRS. Help p[lease.

Recommended Posts

Hi. I know that many have done this over the years, apologies for a repeat of info.

I have done a few dozen track days now with the standard front callipers, quality discs and DS2500 pads. Stopping has been surprisingly good but now ready for the next step.

I have got hold of a pair of LCR Brembo calibers but unsure as to what else I need.

From a bit of web searching I believe I need a pair of 323mm discs.

Adapters, are these available off the shelf?

Will I need longer hoses?

Anything else?

I assume that there is a brake bias valve on the car, does this remain the same?

All help and info gratefully received. Maybe someone has some bits unused sitting at home?

323x28mm, 334x32mm, and 312x25mm front brake discs were used in conjunction with 256x22mm ventilated rear brake discs.

After the Octavia MK1 VRS, the Octavia VRS didn't get ventilated rear discs again until the Octavia MK3 VRS facelift.

The Octavia MK2 VRS and the Octavia MK3 VRS pre-facelift only had solid rear brakes, not ventilated.

Most useful thanks. I will get on to TPS unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Here's hoping that they fit under my nice set of 17" Wolfrace Prolites...

From what I remember, they didn't fit behind Spiders, minimum 3mm spacer was required(i think), if your Prolites have thinner spokes and a higher offset than Spiders you could be OK.

Need to find someone breaking an LCR, to get the bits you need. BiggRed brakes may do the bits you need, or VAGBremtechnic, not sure what the prices will be like though.

I started doing this about 10 years ago, I have the calipers in a reasonable state of repair (missing a pad plate) and was planning on getting BCS to do them as they are near me but I did a dry run using the new 18” Wolfrace Pro Lite they said would fit but they didn’t so I left it about five years and when those wheels were like a 50p piece I ordered Alutec 18” wheels to LCR1 homologation but they didn’t fit, then I found the LCR1 was homologated with the 312’s as well for Europe and the Brembo’s were optional there so now am waiting until I need new wheels again which with the state of Nottinghamshire roads can’t be long BUT which aftermarket 18’s will fit a LCR1 with the Brembo calipers? I don’t give a toss about the price, I just can’t find any!

Problem solved! got the parts from the guy I got the calibers from.

Will order new discs tomorrow. Was thinking these as they are high quality. Any other recommendations?

States that they are for 17" wheels... I would hate to loose my Wolfrace wheels and a fairly new set of Toyo R888's. There seems to be plenty of space with the standard callipers...

My standard size discs, (312mm?). Looks like I will need a pair of the 323mm Discs.

Brembo calibers are fine on the diameter of the 17" wheels. The callipers foul the back of the spokes as the Brembo callipers are deeper in thickness to the front!  Alternative is about a 3-4 mm spacer, hmm.

I did a proper mock up the other day. With the correct size discs and calipers fitted I would need a 10 mm spacer.

I would not run anything more than a 3 mm spacer as this car is used for Track Days. The G force that is generated with sticky track tires puts such a strain on the front suspension front/axle et cetera that I would not risk it. Also, with a 10 mm spacer, the tyres would foul the wheel arches.

Looks like if I want to go ahead with this, I need another set of wheels with the correct offset.

Question, I assume that wheels from an LCR have the correct offset? Not keen on losing my niece Wolfrace Prolites…

Damn!

LCR wheels fit fine, 18" though. Seat did do a 17" version on the Ibiza Cupra(6K) model designation, which I think fit due to a higher offset. Check on Seat Cupra.net, was a few threads on there on which wheels fit over Brembo's without spacers. From my time owning a MK1 the LCR alloys were always stupidly priced. from my aging memory S3 Avus alloys fitted, but are quite heavy, TT comps were another possibility and not much difference in weight compared to Spiders. Compomotive did a couple of options, all old wheels now so not sure what availability is like now.
