2020 Scout Suspension Issues and questions

Featured Replies

Quick update fresh from the shop.

The tech didn't mention anything, the ride height (although not measured) looks about the same, so it's safe to say the part numbers recommended by @Carlstonare correct 👍

First impressions after 30km, the back is certainly a bit stiffer, but not so much that it completely changes the car. I doubt someone going from a "stock" Scout to this without knowing that I just spent 500 EUR on parts and labor would notice the difference.

My test spot is a collapsed culvert crossing (2, actually) on the local backroad. This morning before the replacement, I hit it at about 80kmh, the car bounced up and down hard and it almost felt like the rear tires got some air! Same spot on the way back, same speed, the car bounces once and settles back just fine. Considering it's a jacked-up estate with a soft'ish suspension, that's what I would expect.

I'll report back again after a few hundred kilometers, shouldn't take long considering that we've driven almost 13000 km since we bought it in January!

That's some heavy use. Sounds like it was worth the effort and money. Certainly makes a big difference when you have it riding how you want.

well, today for example..
Trip to the mechanic and back: 70 km
My wife took the car to work to the next town over, then to the village, then home: 150km
Meanwhile, I went back to the village with the other car to take our boy to the dentist, and he forgot to get out of school, but still: 70km
so, there you have it, 220km on the Skoda, and 70 on the other car, in one day, and it's not even a special day by any means! It adds up quick when you live in the boonies, and my wife's office is 75km away (one way) with work sites anywhere within a 300km radius! Luckily I work from home for the most part!

That's why I don't cheap out on our cars' maintenance or tires, we really need them! And I really didn't like the soft rear-end, it should be better now!

It's good to hear that the new rear springs and new rear shock absorbers have improved the soft rear end.

Just to help others, are these the parts that you fitted?

Skoda Superb MK3 2.0TDI 190PS 4x4 Scout (increased ride height)

Lesjofors 4295131 rear springs sold to replace OEM part number 3Q0511115BB (two up in the hierarchy compared to the standard 3Q0511115AT)

Bilstein B4 19-262727 rear shock absorbers sold to replace OEM part number 3Q0513049HC

Yes, these are correct 👍

Thanks again for your help!

Another quick update after 200-300km on the springs.

Now the front certainly feels softer. When the rear gets settled after a big bump, the front takes a little longer. To the point that my wife already asked when we will be replacing the front springs with something a bit stiffer 😅

Hello @PatFinland,

Can you share some more feedback how is the car performing after a certan period with the upgrade to B4 rear suspension and new springs? How is the setup performing going over a potholes or other road imperfections? Are you satisfied and do you plan to change the fronts also?

I am also looking for such a change but still in doubt should I go to B6 (not confirm fitment and the local services doesnt want to get involved into) or to the B4 as it is stated that they fit to a Rought Road Package/Scout.

The car is sold now, but I did certainly notice the improvement.

The rear is still "soft" compared to a more sporty car, but much less bouncy than stock.

Comfort-wise, no difference, if anything I found it more comfortable because it's more stable.

I put 9000km on it in December, from snowy Finland to France and 190 km/h Autobahn in between, loaded to the gills (trunk and backseat full) or empty, and the car was very comfortable, easy to drive fast, even in bad weather conditions.

If i had kept the car, I probably would have done the front to match. For a family car, I'd go with the B4 (i think that's what I said I bought?). If it was "my" car only / mostly, I'd go a step firmer.
