Just pay for the original part. I bought three with the exact part number but were for other vw models it turns out. Managed to track down a skoda model online for much cheaper than the dealer and it works perfectly. Needed to code back the original code so make sure you take a scan before you remove it

I've just ordered a piece in a scrapyard from a volkswagen (before read your message). A mechanic friend says that the piece gonna match, same number, same hw, same first numbers of sw, two months of difference of fabrication... I'll update with the results. In case it doesnts works, I'll buy the original one. Thanks for the reply

I've changed the module (5q0953569A). I didn't buy the original one, I buy one on a dealer much cheaper (450€ vs 150€). The one is working perfectly after erasing errors  and code the new module.

I don't like too much how the new module looks like:

new:

Address 16: Steering wheel (J524) Labels:* None
Part No SW: ----------- HW: -----------
   Component: Lenks.Modul --- 0175
   Revision: -------- Serial number: --------------
   Coding: 1400
   Shop #: WSC 73430 031 00063
   ASAM Dataset: EV_SMLSVALEOMQB 001010
   ROD: EV_SMLSVALEOMQB.rod
   VCID: 6FED66BBB69D05EB22-803B

old one (original):

Address 16: Steering wheel (J524) Labels:| 5Q0-953-549.clb
   Part No SW: 5Q0 953 521 M HW: 5Q0 953 569 A
   Component: Lenks.Modul 075 0195
   Revision: FF033033 Serial number: 20160206401464
   Coding: 1400

   ROD: EV_SMLSVALEOMQB.rod
   VCID: 3C7781F7B76BAE73D7-8069

But it's working, horn, all buttons in steering wheel and after clear error codes airbag light is gone!

I forgot to say, VCDS says next message, so I copied from old one the numbers:

If anyone finds thos topic still actual, I had the same problem. Thing is, you need to match sw version (or higher) of clockspring.

As I tried to replace my spring on kodiaq

Which had the sw code 235. I tryed genuine valeo spring with sw code 195 and it didin’t worked. I had coding problem same as mentioned at this thread before where first coding number which was responsible for cruise control fuctions gave me an headache. Lucky me, at workshop we found one spare from 2021 octavia, which had same sw235 code and it took 6414 code I needed. Older sw versions just doesn’t support coding of cruise control by separate handle behind the wheel. They support vags who have autopilot controls on steering wheel. As on newer sw versions, vag included both steering wheel and separate handle autopilot coding.

Please help, I have a similar issue with my 2017 Kodiaq. I've bought a replacement clock spring from Component authority - it has identical hardware no 5Q0953569A and software no 235  as the original clock spring, however I can't get it to accept the original longcoding (obdeleven). The supplier are adamant that the part is correct and just needs coding.

According to obdeleven the replacement part shows a different (lower) software number

Original part:

HW No: 5Q0953569A SW No: 5Q0953569A

Replacement part

HW No: 5Q0953569A SW No: 3Q0953521CS

Is the vendor correct and it's just a coding issue, or do I try and find another replacement part?

Hi all, I have the same issue on my 2018 Superb. Is there any good video anywhere that shows how to get the clock spring out?

For same part number 5Q0953569A or B there 2 versions for VW and for Skoda. They have hardware difference, Skoda version contains elements for ACC handle.

In most cases, you’ll buy the VW version, which means you won’t be able to code it properly and it won’t work.

Thank you, I've read the entire topic, I'm aware of the different versions of the clock spring. I am looking for a video that would be as close as possible to the Superb, on how to remove the clock spring from the steering wheel. I've watched a few on other brands/models, and wouldn't want to break anything attempting this 😅

Nice one, thank you! Would you have same images for the airbag?

Opened that bitch up, the ribbon cable was snapped, wound it back up, soldered the broken connections and it's all working again! The way the original connection is made, it's just a single point, tiny spot weld, no wonder these break all the time.

These things are totally repairable.
