As per title

how do you turn off LED daytime running light strips in VCDS?

and also why is it , that even though ive installed english version, when you go through the list of adaptions for example its still in german?

Not very helpful

They make more sense than where it has been translated.

What do you think "Instrument celebration" would be?

Sorry I cant answer your first question.

You should not be able to turn off the DRL's - they are a legal requirement in the UK on any new car seeking Type Approval since 2011.

Prior to this they could be disabled, they were added, but with no legal requirement could be turned off.

so you can turn off your DRL via the headunit,  but its a mot fail if you do so for night time, when you have headlights and dont need DRL's??

Sounds a bit mad.

Current MOT says:

Quote

4.2.1. Presence, condition and operation
This inspection is for:

- mandatory position lamps
- mandatory end-outline marker lamps
- daytime running lamps (DRLs) fitted to M1 vehicles first used on or after 1 March 2018

Therefore, the OP can permanently disable the DRL given it's a 2013 car.

You only need to inspect daytime running lamps (DRLs) if they’re fitted as original equipment to vehicles first used on or after 1 March 2018.

DRLs must switch on and off when the engine is switched on and off.

DRLs might not operate when:

- the parking brake is on
- the park position is selected on automatic transmissions
If DRLs have been manually switched off, sometimes they do not light up until the vehicle is travelling faster than 10 kilometres per hour (6.2mph) or the vehicle has travelled 100m (328ft).

My car was made after March 2018 but has an option in the headunit to disable the DRL. If it were to fail an MOT, I would then point out to the tester how to enable them and expect a free retest...

I never knew they might re-enable themselves, I'll test it when I remember!

As for the OP, maybe start by adding a VCDS autoscan and adaption map for your BCM.

Just curious. It says they must operate dependant on the engine running. Do yours only work with the engine running or as soon as you turn on the ignition?

Pretty sure mine come on/off with the ignition rather than the engine.

how you do that? still learning

Autoscan:

Start VCDS -> Autoscan -> Start -> Save

Adaption map:

Start VCDS -> Applications -> Controller channel map -> Select:

- Single controller 09

- Adaptions

- CSV file

Go

Assuming you've used the default installation paths, both files should be in C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs

If you haven't already, it's worth grabbing an autoscan and using the "Whole vehicle" option in the channel maps. This way you know exactly how your car is configured which will help if you ever mess something up or need to replace a module :)

Might not be an MOT fail, but it would be a declarable insurance modification as you are removing an option that was installed at the factory. And you can imagine the insurance company would happily use an undeclared removal to get out of a payment in the event of a crash if they could attribute reduced visibility of the car to the removal of the DRLs. So I wouldn't....

Whilst I agree all mods should be declared, I think the insurance company would be hard pushed to refuse a claim due to turned off DRL. Still - that's a rabbit hole for a different thread :)

I had a quick look and DRL enabling/disabling is well documented in various (all?) MK3 Octavia owners manuals so maybe the OP should try the methods described before resorting to VCDS. A few example are below...

My take. You're not removing the option, you're using the option.

Hope you were pulling the headlight out anyway, because you can replace the DRL LED controller underneath (pretty sure the headlight ballast is on the radiator side of the light) without doing so...

Hate how replacement aftermarket controllers on a certain popular auction site are all labelled headlight ballast when they're not...

theres no way you can get to controller underneath from below or without taking bumper off to get light out to replace it
