Why did I buy this car!

Featured Replies

First of all this is my first experience with a Škoda, I came from an 2012 Audi Q3 which was a decent car, never really had issues apart from the annoying diesel particulate filter which we just lived with.

I purchased a 2020 Kodiaq last week from a dealership, I had a couple of test drives which were really positive, so decided to go ahead with the purchase.

I drove the car down from Liverpool to Essex which most of the journey was fine until I got a random “oil level too high” warning. Which was a bit odd, next I got the random emergency sos warning which again was random (turns out it’s a common thing). So literally the first day I had issues.

This week using the car the infotainment system has frozen completely and had no functioning whatsoever, volume, no sound, no CarPlay etc.

Now I know that car computers have their gremlins etc and that’s with new cars but wow this car as much as it drives great, is a real pain to live with!!!

My partner drove to Bath a couple days ago and once again the infotainment system froze on them while on the motorway!

Is there any tips on how to live this car issues? I’m going to book it into a Škoda garage to try and see if some issues can be resolved.

The oil level is fine, the emergency sos is something I know that just randomly comes on and I can live with but the infotainment completely freezing on a regularly basis is not good enough.

If anybody can help me on what I can do to resolve these issues. I would be grateful.

My partner is really unhappy on how the car is having faults already into our first week!

I'm guessing your car has the MIB3 system which made it's debut in 2020 models. If your car has no CD player in the glovebox / has two USB type-C outlets as opposed to a usb type-A, then it's an MIB3 system.

Ask your local dealer check if the infortainment software update patch has been applied - all dealers should be aware of this.  Early MIB3 systems suffered several odd characterisitcs - the updated software rectifies this. The upgrade was only carried out when owners reported the system playing up rather than the car being recalled.  If you bought your car from a Skoda dealer then they really should have upgraded that software before selling it.

I had a few odd things happen in my car, they applied that upgrade last year, it's worked 100% since.

Appreciate the reply! I shall let them know when I speak to the garage. Is there any way to find out what version I have? Firmware etc?

How old is the car? Was it purchased used? Was it sold via a Skoda main dealer and was it on Skoda UK’s approved used scheme?

If yes, then you should be able to take it to your local Skoda dealer and get them to liaise with the supplying dealer on your behalf and get it all sorted under warranty.

Annoying, but this is a potential risk when buying used. Not all approved used vehicles are ex-lease, some of them are offloaded due to annoying niggles.

It just seems that when I look these problems up, it seems like a common issue. I now had a hour long drive with no radio or sat nav because I had the loading profile screen. I rebooted the unit over 6 times and it just would not work! I am booking the car in for a complete software reset because this is just beyond a joke now!

You can, press and hold down the Menu/Setup button for 10 seconds to enter the engineering menu.

Look for a page with Software Train, I can either send file to you, or at least confirm there IS an update (dealers will often just brush you off with these)

I would be very grateful for that, I would rather try and diagnose the fault myself before I start making trips to the dealership.

Post information when you can then, at least you will know if an update is there or not.

You can read the Fourth update, and you would be able to update to 0306.

I can send it over, just remember you load at own risk.

Theory is that it should all work out OK, but could also end badly.
