What to go for - 1.9 or 2.5?

Featured Replies

Did also check with AutoExpress re if a facelift was due because of Passat platform change and they said they had heard nothing - not even a "whisper".

Wrenko, after a while on here, you may find that you might find information on here quicker than from Auto Express!:P Superb 2 was mentioned on here in January!

I doubt that the current model will get any major changes, but Superb 2 has been given the go ahead. As new Passat is based on same platform as current Golf, Octy 2 etc, new Superb won't be. Superb 2 will be on same platform as new Audi A6, and will have have a two section hatch/boot affair. You will be able to open the boot like you would on a normal saloon, but you will also be able to open the whole hatch up.

There has been mention on here of an estate version, but that remains to be seen (unless someone has soom more up to date info?)

All the Best

Thanks Chris. I had already emailed AutoExpress/Whatcar and Telegraph re potential Superb 2 or facelift. Whatcar didn't reply but from the others Autoexpress said "Thanks for your email. The honest answer is that have no evidence or indeed tip-offs that a new or revised Superb is in the pipeline. As soon as we know anything more you will read it first in auto express."

Telegraph (Honest John) reply was:

"An entire new model must be due fairly soon because the Superb is based on the old shape Passat. Unless VW now plant to import its Superbs from China."

So 50/50. Having driven the 2.5 must say I preferred it - more refined and lighter steering. Mine would be a factory order job but part of me thinks might want a month to see if Superb 2 info comes out.

Thanks for the thought

Tony

Hi Tony

As far as I know, there has not been a launch date announced for the Superb 2, so you might have to wait longer than a month for more information on that.

Have you tried the new 2.0 diesel, as used in the Octy2? Rumour has it that it is a good engine.

All the Best

The "HEAVY STEERING" on the test car. Dealer says they can change set up (up to 6 settings). Is it realy so that it's possible to change this??

Note my previous post which said that dealer ended up speaking to Skoda UK who said this could only be done on the Fabia not the Superb. My update is since driven a couple of 2.5's and currently in process of ordering a 2.5 Elegance. Hope to join the Superb fraternity in Sept. :)

2.5 is an excellent engine. I think you've made the best choice.

Hi,

I have an E100 2.5 Diesel Auto. I've had it 8 months and have done 12,000 miles

I generally get around 40 MPG, sometimes more if I'm careful on the motorway, though I did once manage 51.3, 50 mph all the way from Glasgow to London.

Steering is generally light to vague, so I guess your experiences may point to a problem with the car

The solar sunroof works, but I wouldn't say the car is cool inside on a hot day, but you won't cook either.

I tested a 1.9 Auto when I bought this and found it a bit sluggish on the motorway, for all up torque (50-70 accelleration) the V6 is better.
