VRS ate my mobile phone!?!

Featured Replies

Ok.... this has to be a first. It would appear my mobile has slid out of my bag, onto the floor and made it's way down a narrow vent underneath the drivers seat and I cannot reach it  :orb_rolli

Does anyone have any idea what this vent is for and how you can get inside to get the aforementioned mobile phone :D:thumbup:

Drive up a very steep hill

tried it but the little bugga seems to have found the perfect home :) cannot believe this like :D Thankfully it wasn't too expensive..... could be a new phone..... again..... the last one only lasted a short time, it came to a sudden end while I was out rock climbing :D

Could you attach some sellotape to a ruler and stick that to the phone?

try ringing it it may vibrate out......

How about using a vacuum cleaner??

How about using a vacuum cleaner??

hummm  maybe worth a try.... when swmbo brings the car back!!! I have tried ringing the phone.... no chance as it drops down into the vent :) I have moved the seat as far forward as possible and looked down the vent but cannot see it.... thinking about it, not sure if the vacuum thing will work...

The sellotape one, well, If I get a torch and can see the little bugga I may stand a chance with that one :D

I've been trying to work this out for ages... what does swmbo stand for? Guessing it refers to the missus...

ahhhh..... been there :D she who must be obeyed

If you take the seat out (4 M?? bolts), the vent just pulls off of the ventilation hose. You should replace the bolts though as they are single use only.

Excellent! the car is going in for some work at Barmoor garage soon so I will see if they can get me some replacement bolts :D (excellent garage, can't recommend them highly enough  ) :)

Does the seat come out easily enough, anything to be careful of? and would I be correct in thinking it is purely a ventilation vent and not a heated vent?

Thanks

Providing its not jammed in, try 2 knitting needles - one down each side- and it might pull out as if you were using long nosed pliers. The alternative might be to put a blob of super glue on the end of a foot ruler and allow contact (without pushing it in further!) Wait for an hour or so to allow hardening and with any luck, out it will pop!

No, I haven't been watching Blue Peter. I dropped my new road fund licence down the front of the windscreen(twice  ) and Heath Robinson measures had to be adopted. They worked:thumbup:

Sounds possible  ..... would love to know where the vent goes to/ends.... have visions of my mobile phone working it's way out the bottom of the car then under the wheels :D

The hazards of owning small mobiles I guess. :D I believe that vent blows air to the feet of the rear passengers, but pretty sure setting the vent on feet and speed 4 won't just blow it out unless it was a tight seal? maybe bung the other three feet vents with a cloth so all the force comes out the one. :D

On the other hand just take the seat out. You "should" renew those bolts, but to be honest there's no real need to - I've had my passenger seat out so many times and I never feel there's an issue when I refit. The bolts go in as snug and smoothly as they probably first did in the factory. I think the bolts are M8 star bolts by the way. Might be M10.

It's connected to the ventilation system (so temperature/airflow should be the same as that coming out of the air vents). IIRC, it just runs under the seat then across to the tranmission tunnel and then into the main air vent bit - been a while since I've looked at the diagrams though, so my memory could be playing tricks. Should be safe from it falling out though... :)

ah well.... seat removal it is then :D It will have to wait a little...... driving down to Jabba tomorrow night for a 9am appointment on wednesday.... custom map day is closing in  then, a couple of jobs to be done at Barmoor Garage on Thursday!!

By the way, after removing the seat do you have to lift the carpet? Ta

Not sure how the vent bit relates to the carpet - have a feeling a lot of it is exposed above the carpet. If the carpet needs lifting it might need freeing up all along the driver's side of the car to free up and roll toward the handbrake area.

They are M10s.

You wont need to lift the carpet no.

Be careful you dont scratch the paint or the dash when removing the seat from the car - the runners are quite long and its quite easy to be clumsy and do some expensive damage.

For the sake of a couple of quid I'd change the bolts, as Jason says they seem fine to reuse - but there must be a reason for the recommendation.

The vent will pull off really easily, they literally just slot onto the hose, no clips or anything.

Thanks for the Info eveyone.... I will have to try this at the weekend with any luck!!! I have a feeling it has gone past the initial vent that pulls out!! :(

It's out :D I managed to remove the first section of the vent with the seat in place and parked up on a steep hill and when nobody else was coming, floored it :D :D :D took a couple of goes but eventually I heard it move and was then just able to get my fingers on to it!!!

So, Skodayouth who came up with the first idea also came up with the correct one "Drive up a very steep hill" .... no prize unfortunately :D

Good to hear!

Hope all goes well tommorw.
