First go with the porter Cable

Featured Replies

Been itching to give the PC a go and decided to give it a go last Saturday. I was particularly eager to see the difference between a top acrylic LSP to the Zymol Estate glazes I have been using for the last 3 years.

Sorry no pics of swirls before but I would say moderate swirl marks with some deeper scratches in some places. I was keen to remove as much defect as possible before the start of the England match ;)

Wash with 2 buckets and Zymol car shampoo (cheaper version) with Meguiars mitt

clayed using Meguiars quick detailing clay

Dried using Meguiars water magnet

Menzerna IP using SFX Yellow pad

Blackfire GEP using SFX White pad

Blackfire wet diamond using SFX blue pad

Started off doing half panel at a time using IP on speed 2 light pressure to spread it around, then speed 4 with moderate pressure and then speed 6 again 2 passes. Buffed off using Sonus polishing microfibres. Used Brinkmans to spot defects and there were some tiny swirls left so I repeated the above process. Swirls removed but some small scratches remained.

I was going to get the 4" spot pads out but decided that I just wouldn't have time to complete the whole car so I continued to next stage.

Switched to SFX white pad and using Blackfire Gloss enhancing polish I did a panel at a time. Again started speed 2 to spread and then to speed 4 and did 2/3 passes with medium pressure. Left to haze and then buffed off using Sonus microfibre.

Then switched to SFX blue pad using Blackfire Wet Diamond with the same method as glaze. Buffed off using Zymol microwipes.

It took approx. 5-6 hours and to say that the PC saves you your arms! I have to disagree! I have never been soooo exhausted after a session on the car!

The results, well I must say that it looks great. Now I know what they say about great reflections and also great flake popping results. I chose BWD because I like a wet look and this product is renowned for it's wetness.

My personal opinion is that I think I prefer the results from my Zymol Vintage as it seems to add a better level of wetness and depth albeit at the cost of reflective performance but I'm going to try topping up another few layers of BWD to see if that improves the wetness within the coming weeks.

Still very impressive and I also look forward to trying out the Carlack combo at some time, maybe winter now.

Here are some pics, sorry no full car pics as they came out under exposed.

well done, great report and detail. I know how long it takes to put that together, nice flaking pop on the bonnet shots!

Not bad. No offence, but mine looks the same after an application ,by hand, of Swissol Wax

Mine needs a good detail. :(

Stunning pics.

Nice one mate.

I have mine here but it will have to be resigned to the back of the cupboard until I come back from abroad I'm afraid.

When you next clean it post a picture of the bonnet in sunlight.:)

Mine needs a good detail. :(

Stunning pics.

Not found anyone in the Sout West yet then Jase?

Depending where they are, and how much they charge, i could possibly be interested as well.

All the Best

Chris

seems to be a bit of a detailer blank spot down there, had an enquiry from a Lad with an LCR wanting me to travel down to Exeter...

Excellent pictures, what a result!

I'd be up for a detailing session down south

Same problem in the North East too. Not many detailers with a PC which is why I decided to invest in one myself. Don't think I could do it for a living though ;)

Menzerna IP

Blackfire GEP

Blackfire wet

Sorry but I dont know what this is?

Sorry but I dont know what this is?

Menzerna Intensive Polish - mild abrasive polish to remove swirls / minor defects

Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish - Glaze to enhance wetness and minor filling of defects

Blackfire Wet Diamond - Acrylic Sealant to protect and also finish

These were recommended by members on Detailing World for use with hard VAG paint.

I purchased them from www.polishedbliss.co.uk

you say you had sore arms after use, did you us ethe 6" counterweight or did yuo change to the smaller one for "polishing purposes" as i had the same problem first time and then changed weights and it stopped.

I used the 5" counterweight. It wasn't really sore arms, I was just totally wrecked from all the hard work in blistering heat albeit done in the garage.

I expect it would have been a lot easier with 2 people doing it but it was probably harder than a full session at the gym and with better results

When I think about it, I went over the car 19 times!

1. wash

2. clay

3. dry

4. polish pass1

5. polish pass2

6. polish pass3

7. polish pass4

8. polish pass1 (repeated)

9. polish pass2

10. polish pass3

11. polish pass4

12. glaze pass1

13. glaze pass2

14. glaze pass3

15. sealant pass1

16. sealant pass2

17. sealant pass3

18. wash (to remove all dust)

19. dry

and all this is ignoring cleaning windows, tyre black, interior etc... which I will do next clean.

Should be easier to maintain now with just top up of Sealant now and again until maybe next year!

....should be easier to maintain now.......

Gonna put it through the car wash next time? ;) .

Seriously though youv'e done a nice job there on the Furby. I'm looking forward to using my PC, picked it up last week but havn't used it yet as it's been way too hot and sunny.
