Any tips on selling 57 Bentley?

Featured Replies

Hi

my wife's cousin has been left a 1957 Bentley Type R or S1 (we're not sure). The Chassis number is B506EG, and as it is a RHD, it's only been driven rarely out here in Bahrain (it has 63,886 miles on the clock).

It's in excellent shape mechanically with some signs of age (minor rust, woodwork need re-varnishing).

Anyone here know how she can find out the value of it? She'd be willing to ship it to the UK if that gets her the best price.

I'd appreciate any help, thanks

Bas

Have a chat with these guys http://www.bonhams.com/ they are one of the major UK Auction houses for fine cars, they have a Roller & Bentley sale this month, probably too soon for you

look through here for clues, its the catalogue of the forthcoming sale http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=EUR&screen=Catalogue&iSaleNo=14258 , in the search start at lot 400 & put the word Bentley in the box below, theres a 56 S1 & a 53 type R both coupes but 50-60,000 guide

Also try http://www.coys.co.uk/auctions/motor_cars.php another major car auction house in the UK

Try the various owners clubs for tips but dont sell too quickly until you are sure of what its worth

Let me know how you get on.

Also amass as much history as possible, previous owners (might be someone famous), service histories, is the car modded in any way from stock, some cars were built to customers specific orders & changes from a stock car could add to the value

thank you Stuart,

I believe that the car was purchased in the 70's from the estate of some lord, will try to get more details, the car has been serviced by the dealers here regularly, only mod is a 70's style Aircon that sits under the original dash.

Any pics out of sheer curiosity?

Have a look here' date='

Some pics would be nice.

Beat me to it, was going to suggest Classic Car Mag - Numerous Specialists who would be only to happy to sell a car like that on your behalf.....

Another shout for a piccy as well please

Maybe the USA would be a better market than the UK to sell it?

I mean if you are going to ship it, ship it to the country it will make the most $, after taxes and shipping.

Barrett-Jackson (I think) are the big auction house out here in the US for Classic cars. Forever seeing it on one of the cable TV channels.

Using my extensive knowledge and experience, I believe the car is worth £100.00 if it is in top condition. However as a one off, I am prepared to offer you £110.00 without even seeing it. If you can arrange for it to be delivered to my door I might even stretch to £115.00.

How good to you can I be??

Piccies look good, appears to be a nice example, as I said before take your time to sell it. best thing to do now is gather as much history as possible. I will have a word within the GRRC to see if we have any Bentley experts
