Octavia Vrs 2001

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, this is my first post !

I have just bought a vrs 2001 model (40,000 miles) and so far it seems like a nice car, however on the second day the 'engine' warning light came on. I noticed the temp dial had dropped to 0deg (or what ever the cold coolent temp is on the dial)

however after a few min it cam back up to the 90deg and stayed there. I thought hmm must be a loose conection on the temp sensor/housing however having only just bought the car, i have not had time to learn where that is. still looking for a manual of sorts

I noticed since, it has either fallen to cold then come back up again with in seconds or stays cold for a min then comes back to working, so looks like a intermitant fail, Be it conection or the sensor itself.

Looks like it might be common?

Also the pastic water pump problem sounds common, should i pull it off to have a look? (is this driven by the cam belt? if so its a much bigger job than i will have time for)

I consider myself handy around cars (built 2 private race cars and engineered some engin swaps a few years ago) however that was back in australia and i dont have all my tools now that i have moved to the uk.

Cheers for any advise

Hi Ben,

Welcome to Briskoda - good choice of car:thumbup:

Can't offer any help regarding your temp guage problem but I'm interesting in knowing what part of Oz you come from as we're planning to move over there in a couple of years time.

I believe that the water pump is driven by the cam belt, but I'm not 100% sure I'm affraid.
